Question Variometer + inclinometer test

Hello,

I will be sitting an aptitude test which includes an exercise looking at hand/foot/eye co-ordination. For those who already did COMPASS assessment, it's the first exercise of the COMPASS aptitude test.

A simplified vertical speed indicator is shown on the screen, and you need to keep the needle centered with a joystick. It's not as simple as it sounds as the needle will randomly swing up and down.

Also shown is the ball of an inclinometer. With pedals, you need to keep the ball centered. Of course, the same random movements will be simulated here.

What is a good method to perform well on this test? What's the best way to have the needle and ball centered as much as possible? What is the best way to prepare for this test?

I could ask the same question in another way to pilots: how have you been trained to keep the localizer and GS needle centered at all times when flying an ILS manually? Or how do you keep your aircraft straight and level in a cloud and in turbulent wx conditions with only your vertical speed indicator and your turn coordinator with inclinometer?

Any help will be seriously appreciated !

Many thanks, kind regards,
Lynn

Concentrate and be very very gentle. Don't over-control going from one side to the other. Small input, assess what it has done, make the next small input, assess etc.
