Question Financing Through A Career Development Loan

Hi Everyone,
I hold a FAA Private Pilot Certificate and am currently working on my JAA ATPL exams. Once that's done I want to go back to a US flight school to get my FAA SE IR and a JAA ME prior to converting the whole thing to a JAA ME/IR back in the UK and doing a regular course towards the JAA CPL. I was planning to finance the US bit by means of a Career Development Loan through Barclay's Bank but now learned that the bank will transfer the amount applied for directly into the school's account which I do not like at all as I feel I would loose control over those funds. And we all know the rule to not ever pay in advance in aviation. So I don't know, am I worrying too much or are my concerns legitimate? What do you guys think? Any thoughts in this? Any experiences? Thanks for your help in advance.

It depends which school you are going to. Is it a small cheap school? or a large established well known school.

It's a larger school in southern California providing both JAA and FAA training and according to them a registered learning provider approved by the British authorities.
