FlightSafety Academy
Has anybody here been to FlightSafety Academy in Vero Beach Florida?
It seems to be a very good school, but there doesnt seem to be many discusions about it on here.
What do you think of the school and do you think it will be good for a UK student?

Was there just a couple of weeks ago, very impressive school and facilities. They're currently working on an affiliate scheme with PTC in Waterford to provide JAA conversions. Its predominantly focused on FAA training and is fairly costly by US standards. If you can afford it, and would like to go integrated the FAA route then i recommend it highly. If you're looking for JAA training then there are more cost effective options even through the FAA to JAA conversion route be it modular or integrated. Hope this helps.

Davey I went to FlightSafety and then came to Europe to Convert. Best thing I ever did.
I would ask them about the Conversion program they have, it must be good if FlightSafety is backing PTC in Ireland.

Flightsafety Info???
Hi, Im interested in applying to Flightsafety for my pilot training but have a few questions:
Part of the application is a FAA medical? Being an international student do they accept the CAA class One Medical?
Whats the conversion process from a Frozan FAA ATPL to a JAA ATPL?
Any other feedback or advice is greatly received. The otehr two schools Im looking at are OAT and Cabair. Cheers, Barney.

You need to get an FAA class 1. A JAA class one is not acceptable, but the FAA medical only costs between 60-100 USD and is not as stringent and is easy to arrenge once you get here.

Basically 14 JAA exams and a multi-instrument checkride in a JAA member state.
FSA is an extremely well run school where you are treated properly as a customer. Their aircraft are in very good condition and well maintained. Flight instruction is second to none in my own personal experience. It is an expensive school, but I do believe that you get what you pay for in the flight training industry. I do not work for the school, but I would not hesitate to recommend it to anybody.

I think that they will train you for any rating at all. I know of guys that have turned up half way through there training from other schools to complete and they have all been accomodated.
Do you have your Multi rating ? You may want to consider that as well why you are here. They have a great fleet of Seminoles with dual garmin 430's.

Flightsafety Academy Dollars
I will soon be doing my PPL and hour building in Florida does any body know how many Dollars i should bring to cover living expenses for 10 weeks. Thank you for your reply.

Not been to the good ol' US of A before? Take a credit card - getting by in the US without one is a nightmare (not that I would know - I take several). Also the cash machines will all take your cash machine card so you can withdraw from you EU account (albeit with a charge) if you need a cash topup. I would take a reasonable sum of dollars ($500? maybe I live too extravagently?) for small change and do the bulk on credit card and top up the dollars if you need to from an ATM.

You're going to FlightSafety Academy? They'll do everything minus wipe your butt! Just ask. They have excellent customer service so just pick up the phone or drop them an email, they'll give you a thorough rundown.

I am a wannabe pilot and am currently considering training at FlightSafety Academy in Florida to gain my P/C/I/ME licenses and then convert back to JAA at a reputable FTO here in Europe. The difference in cost between doin this and courses offered by Oxford, CTC, Cabair, PTC etc is about £15,000. Can any pilots/people in the know tell me if this is a good idea? I understand you get what you pay for but from what I read FSA is regarded as one of the best in the US. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

FSI are top notch but very busy these days. Don't forget how much of the 15k you'll lose on living money during the months you spend converting and if you end up repeating any lessons
