Orlando FT / Cabair ATPL'S Ground School

Just wondering if anyone had heard anything positive or otherwise regarding the course they are advertising on here for full time residential ATPL ground school in Florida?

It look a good price but do you get what you pay for?

OFT Residential ATPL

cloudz,

The Chief Groundinstructor at OFT is an old ATPL groundinstructor from NAC who now changed his employer.

So what you can expect is about the same as at NAC, the difference is, the Chief groundinstructor at NAC has real flying experience in big jets and is in the ATPL business for about 10 years now.

But i must say, i'm pretty sure it wil be good at OFT as wel, since the guy works hard and makes things happen!

And on the flying side it's better at OFT, al least that's my personal experience.

Thank you...

How do you think the training will compare to what is on offer in the UK with the likes of Oxford & Cabair etc?

Well yes the guy who is the new CGI is from NAC, but no he isnt the one who flew 'in' heavy jets, actually the current CGI at NAC flew only as a engineer in the RAF! So did his predecessor, and yes I was the one before that and yes I did not fly a heavy jet also. Not that having flown a heavy jet will make you a good CGI or teacher! ( from my current job Ican attest to the fact that you soon forget all the technical crap you need to teach JAA ATPL theory)

I think you will find the ground school will be a replica of the Cabair system as its under their approval and will use their materials and teaching aids.

It's amazing how peoples attitudes change. once i told OFT i chose another school to fly with they didnt want to know and turned quite nasty. Bang goes there chance of me doing any flying with them in the future if i decided to do so.

There is a exam center in Orlando that you can use if you go to any school approved under the UK CAA .

If you go to any USA based school it will be cheaper to use the exam center , most schools have the cost of using this exam center built into their course cost.

Its a important question to ask when booking into a USA based ATPL groundschool if there are any extra charges to use this exam center on top of the actual exam fees.

Thanks for the info, I thought it might be a replica of the cabair ground school as they plaster the cabair logo all over the website.

I would hope that as this is the first course to be run that they would want things to go very well and all the students to get high pass rates!

Only time will tell....

Money vs Florida flightschools

davidathomas42,

This is true for ALL Florida flightschools!!! In Fact, it could be true for ALL Flightschools.

Anyway, keep the money in YOUR pocket and pay as you go, never more than minimum $$$ in your account.

And even though, there are schools that still treat you like Sh*t because they know you have an M1 visa in the name of thier school, so you are going nowhere! (This wasn't the case at OFT though, they treated me well throughout the course, but i have seen other things at other places)

And most people don't know they can change the Visa to another school quite easy, but when you are only there for 4 weeks to do your PPL, there simply is no point in doing so. Flight schools know that, and treat you accordingly

Anotherthing, tell them you only have 3 weeks to do the PPL, if you tell them otherwise they will MILK you for all you got, better have 4 weeks and tell them you have 3 so you will be able to pass, and you can be sure that you get a plane, for they want your money to be in thier pockets before you leave. And you still have time if the weather is not cooperative. Strategie worked for me!

I think we should be told.
