Rating tests

Say i had just qualified as a commecial pilot,, and I applied for a job say at BA. Would i take the rating test for the certain plane they may want me to fly with them, or would i be expected to get the rating independantly?

I suppose part of the question is how and where would i get my ratings for ceretain aircraft??
