GPS and database

Hi all,

Will be getting a GPS before going to Florida, thinking of the Garmin 96.
If I get it from Transair, will I need to get a US database for it? How much will I need on it. If it has a world wide map, I think I can get by without all the navaids and frequencies, I can get that from charts etc, so it is really only as a backup for position reference.
Any comments or advice on using one out there? I don't want to use it too much for my hour build as it won't help towards my CPL training when I get back, but it is a good back up.......soooo?

Cheers
