Flying into the sunset

A little bird (well a senior AME) told me that from next year, pilot age discriminantion in the EU will be illegal whether the French unions like it or not. A valid class one will be the only criteria.

What I want to know is how this will affect the hiring market. Are there significant numbers of pilots in their late fifties with the inclination to keep flying? (or even pilots in their sixties who'd like to return?)
