Dear PPruners

The PofF Objectives have been updated on the JAA website, downloadable here JAR Objectives

The Main Changes are listed below New questions will slowly trickle through.

Explanation of changes in issue 3 of the Learning Objectives for Principles of Flight, only the major changes are mentioned.

- Introduction added.
- Changed Bernoulli’s theorem into Bernoulli’s equation.
- Deleted the sentence requiring the theorem to be applied for a given speed and altitude.
- Added wing planform in section 081 01 01 05
- Added stable and unstable to centre of pressure movement with angle of attack.
- Added ground effect impact on lift and drag, also on induced angle of attack and on take-off and landing performance.
- Added altitude effects on stall speed including compressibility effects.
- Added effect of both forward and aft swept wings on stall and recovery characteristics.
- Stall and critical angle of attack are used to indicate the same value (top of the CL - á curve) Note that this a simplification of the
physical reality.
- Added what happens to static temperature and local speed of sound when passing a shock or expansion wave.
- Rewritten 081 05 08 03 about the factors influencing stabiliser setting.
- Included a rule to define limit and ultimate load factor and an explanation what happens if these values are exceeded.
- Relocated the rule to explain the relationship between VA and VS in a formula.
- Rewritten paragraph 081 06 03 02.
- Included a rule to describe the effects of engine/propeller torque.
- Expanded the write-up on effects of wind, mass and configuration on glide performance.
- Added a rule to explain the difference between a co-ordinated and uncoordinated turn.
- Expanded description on turn and slip indicator for asymmetric flight.
