Critical Career Decision
Hi Folks
I've been running around like a headless chicken trying to sort out my Class 1.
As some of you know, because I live in France, I went to get my eyes tested here in Lyon, because I have uncorrectable amblyopia.
The specialist is an approved French aeronautical examiner and he told me that I would fail the French and British class 1 - he also added that it was a bit sad because all other tests were perfectly ok and my binocular vision was 6/6.
Anyway (sorry!) to get to the point......I have been advised that I would be ok for a Class 2 CAA or a Class 2 FAA medical - and that there's a high chance that I could get a SODA for an FAA version of a Class 1 (they call it a class 3?)
So......and opinions please......
....should I get a JAA PPL and build trouble free hours in the hope of convincing the CAA that I am able to fly.... or
....do I go FAA all the way to ATP and then try and get the CAA Class 1 issued on the strength of the FAA version of a Class 1 and flight experience......
I have about a month to make this decision, because my money is in the bank!
Thanks for bearing with my long-windedness.
Wayne

Might be worthwhile starting a new topic in the Medical forum with a link to this one, just a suggestion, might get that little bit more expertise from there, however plenty of people in here might have laready went through it. (However run it by a moderator fist, they get very precious about multiple threads and bandwidth).
I know from reading posts in the past that there have been a few people in similar positions to yourself and they have to go a long winded route to get medically certified (from memory mostly be going through the US first).
Sorry I can't be more help, got my Class 1 on the 22nd. Fingers crossed.
