Weather in FL ?
I'm planning to do my PPL next year in Florida.
The summer (July/August) would suit me best, however as there seems to be some bad weather now I'm not to sure if that is
the best time to go (as to get minimum downtime due to weather).
Any advise ?

At that time it's very hot and humid. Humidity can average 90% some weeks and the temperature between 33-40 degs celcius.
If you allow yourself to climitise for a week you should be OK. I went roughly on those dates and found I was unable to fly on maybe 2 days out of 28. Having said that it is still very bumpy on most days.

Don't know about you, but I wouldn't be able to handle the heat at that time of year. I had trouble with the heat in November!
The other thing to be careful of is hurricane season - usually around September/October (although I saw on the news that a hurricane is about to hit Florida today, so maybe it starts earlier).
Weather over there is certainly better than here, but do still plan on one or two bad-weather days just the same. I got a few bad days right at the start of my CPL, but it cleared up after that and stayed good so that I caught up with my schedule and completed the course on time. Good luck!

Was there last september, the wx was HOT and we had several days where we couldnt fly cos there was a hurricane heading up the east coast, it was hundreds of miles out but still affected us with winds. The thing went up past us and hit land in Carolina so we were OK and only lost two days really. It did give some experience of cross wind conditions which wasnt a bad thing too.

Did my PPL in FL over the same months and didn't have many delays due to weather. Like any place that gets hot during the day, try and fly just after sunrise. This I find is probably the best time to fly! I also did a little evening flying in FL once all the storms had moved offshore.
As long as you can hold complete respect for a thunderstorm and give it at least a 20nm+ wide birth you'll be fine. Yeah you are gonna be hot and sweaty until the fan starts but in my opinion its better than freezing you're bits off!

I'm out in Florida at the moment doing an ab-initio course. I've been out here since April and yesterday was the only whole day we have missed out on due to weather. As it turned out the hurricane turned north and just missed us anyway but everything was grounded and tied down just in case.
Since about the middle of June you can pretty much guarantee a thunderstorm at least every other afternoon but the mornings and evenings are usually okay, but still hot and sticky.
My first couple of months here were clear blue skies virtually all day everyday and less humid so May/June time may be a better option if you want to get the course one as quckly as possible.

It's also a case of hit and miss, personally I think april/May was my favourite time, and I spent about 8 months there. Only had 1/2 a day no flying-due to the fog like creation caused by brush fires some miles away, and really wanted to witness a florida storm, just saw sky flashing one night in the distance! From 1-2pm onwards it does get quite bumpy, but I prefer to call it "sporty!!!!!!", great fun
