Todays Performance exam feedback

Heres what i remember from todays exam at silsoe.

I thought it was a tough paper, i wouldve definately known id failed had i not studied hard for the basic principles stuff. as it was i think i might've just scraped it. at one point i was asking myself if i was doing the right paper; it felt like a principles of flight paper to me.

To those whove helped me answer many of my queries on here , i cant extend my gratitude enough to you guys. ive been that much more confident sitting them with you guys helping me. and all for free too. wickidd!!!

cheers again

1.
Flaps
5 15 25
climb limited mass 57000 69900 3
field limited mass 72200 67000 79900

With a tailwind of 5 kts what will be the max take of mass?

A 77220
B)68700

For the people who sat todays paper, did you go for A which gave highest mass for 5 flaps or B which was the 15 flap mass factored for the wind?

2.

What is the max rate of climb at the absolute ceiling?
A 0 ft/min
B 100 ft/min
C 500 ft/min

3.
With an steady headwind component as you climb and IAS, mass remaining constant:

A the climb angle will decrease
B the angle of the aircrafts flight path increases
C max endurance speed is

4.
An aircraft with reciprocating engine climbs at constant IAS, mass and atmospheric conditions being constant:

A drag will increase and IAS decrease
B drag will remain the same as TAS increases
C drag will decrease and CAS remain constant

5.
How should a pilot land an aircraft when there is a risk of hydroplaning?

A positive touchdown, using reverse thrust and brakes as soon as possible

6.
When is thrust = drug?

A unaccelerated level flight
B accelerated climb
Etc etc

7.
What speed would you find at the bottom of the drag curve?

A speed for min D/L
B speed for max D/L
C speed for maximum lift

8.
What speed would you use to get max endurance ?

A Speed corresponding to minimum drag
B speed to get max lift coefficient
C speed corresponding to the tangent of the drag curve

9.
What will happen to the VBME limit mass with an increase in upslope?

A an increase in max take off mass
B a decrease in max take off mass

10.
An airfield length 3000m. What take of distance would you require for a jet aircraft if the runway is declared as wet?
A 1800
B 2070
C 1530

11.
35ft clearance is provided because? (slightly longer worded question in exam)

A provides minimum clearance of obstacles in the take of path

12.
What would adversely affect take of performance?

A high temperature , high humidity
B low temperature ,low humidity
Etc etc

13.
specific range corresponds to :

A TAS/fuel flow
B IAS/fuel flow

14.
To keep have maximum endurance and climbing to the max altitude after an engine failure an aircraft needs to maintain what speed?

A speed corresponding to max lift coefficient
B Minimum drag speed
C Speed for max endurance
D maximum rate of climb

15.
The speed for maximum endurance will be ;

A always lower than that for maximum range
B will be lower than max range during climb and higher during descent
C sometimes higher than maximum range speed

16.
Considering V1

A if an aircrafts engine fails after V1 the take off must be aborted
B if an aircrafts engine fails before V1 the take off must be aborted
there weren’t any options for ‘may’ . the others were not valid IMO

17.
When considering optimum altitude for cruise

A flight higher than optimum altitude is sometimes used as ATC do not allow continuous use of that altitude for long periods
B flying at this altitude is always used as this gives the best economy
C flying below optimum altitude gives best range

Another question relating to the SEP fig 2.4 I think. answer was 10 kts headwind.

just remember the answerthere were 2 questions on the order of V speeds during take off . simple enough.

hardly any regulation questions to my relief.

Thought it was fairly tough as well!!

How the hell can you remember all the questions?

Thought the Instruments paper today was a Performance exam with all the CAS/IAS/TAS/EAS conversions, climbing and descending etc.

Just have to wait and see, good luck with the rest of them!!!
