Doing IR ME, does it require an ME class rating to start with?
Hi there,
Looking deeply into LASORs I still have a question regarding IR ME training.
If I should choose to directly aim for the IR ME (A) the regulations (or at least LARSORs) requires 15 hours instruction received on ME aeroplane. However, I am not sure wether you are supposed to have an ME class rating before or not.
I would appreciate anyone helping me out here.

Short answer : yes.
A ME class rating is required, but can be done just before the IR.
You do 6 hours MEP training, then start the ME IR course.
You then do your MEP test and 170 for the IR as one flight.
Once you pass the IRT you can get MEP and ME IR issued at the same time.
This way you save a few quid in testing and issue fees.
