For a PFL (not EFATO) that's what I was taught ... followed by the instructor pulling the power at high key over the airfield, when I was expected to make it to the runway, to demonstrate that I could do the last few hundred feet as well.
He pulled the plug at 1200 ft half mile short of crosswind, looked out of his right side and said " I've got a good grass field here!" " I've got a better one this side, it's called EGPJ, thanks anyway" We touched down still in the turn at 5deg bank on one wheel, comment, "Bloody glider pilots!" Fine if the airfield is close enough. Real FLs don't happen like that. |
