My son's picture from last night. |
Nice shot, IFMU! Your son is a skilled photographer and pilot; a good combination! Is it the very acute sun angle, or are your Waiex's wing ribs standing out more than usual? I think that your craft is one fine looking beauty. Have you thought of hanging a Lycoming O-540 or a Pratt and Whitney PT-6 off her firewall? :p Does she have a name?

- Ed :ok: No name for the airplane. |
What’s the nice-looking white monoplane racer with the Ranger/Menasco engine?
I’ve been to the museum’s website, but cannot find a link to aircraft pictures, only hangars. |
Thank you for your considerate reply and great photographs, IFMU! What methodology did you use to attach your craft's upper wing skin to their ribs? I don't see any rivets - so perhaps not a supercritical planform but very smooth all the same. Krazy Glue?
As to re-engining, perhaps you could duct tape an anvil to the empennage and bolt a Merlin up front. That should give serviceable C of G. Just add a five-bladed, full-feathering, variable pitch prop, and bootsfull of right rudder on takeoff and you're good to go. FAST! https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....fc73190d9d.jpg How 'bout naming your fine 'plane: Wanda, the Wandering Wayward Waiex? Clear Skies and Tailwinds! - Ed :) |

- Ed :) It's all rivets. I think you just need to zoom in a little. |
A few pics from today. Since Friday I've flown 6 hours. Aerobatics, cross country, and just cruising around. Burned about 24 gallons.
Northbound at 126kts groundspeed. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....b4e23c7d15.png Iola, WI. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....80178a20e5.png Shiocton, WI https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....8514aa2640.png My last flight was a ride for my youngest. The VDO oil pressure sender failed high/open. Consensus from the Sonex community is those VDO senders are junk. |

The PA12 I learned to fly in. This was a trip to Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, off season, in the early 90s.

A good friend who was in charge of the Elizabethan Gardens in Manteo, Roanoke Island, Nawth-by-God-CackyLacky, had a factory-condition bright yellow J-3 Cub. Though I never got to fly her, I'd often see her cruising at low altitude up and down the beach from Kitty Hawk to Nags Head. Lovely!

I k-k-k-know the f-f-f-feeling, IFMU! It's cold here in Zinzinnati as well. Currently 4ºF with tonight's forecast calling for a low of -2ºF. Great for density altitudes, right? Stay warm!
