The International Cessna C120/140 Association fly-in is at C77 this year. It starts tomorrow, but some showed up early. I can only assume the UK and European contingent were just finishing up crossing the pond when I took these pictures tonight.

He was an A10 pilot and wrote the book "Hogs in the sand." His day job is flying L29s. He brought his airplane and gave a presentation at our EAA monthly chapter meeting. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....02a2cf26a9.png |

Looking over Rock Island and Washington Island towards the Green Bay peninsula in Wisconsin, USA:

Mainly because there was a brisk wind well aligned with it, which was a critical part of our planning going into there 2-up. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....87678f18e7.png |
Aaah de Havilland! https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/e...2/16/1f600.png
I am in Victoria BC at the moment and as a consequence the sky is buzzing with de Havilland floatplanes - Beavers, Otters and Twin Otters. On Thursday evening, I had dinner at the harbourside Boom and Batten restaurant, which looks directly out onto the water runway. I saw multiple floatplane movements, not more than 200 m from my table. One I saw was a magnificently-painted Otter. "How did you know it was a Canadian aircraft?" "It was obvious, there's a U in Harbour!" ;) https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....c82a58b1bb.jpg |
I am in Victoria BC at the moment I knew it was Victoria the instant I saw your photograph. I didn't even need to read your caption. I wish you every joy of your visit! :ok: |
Capn Bug Smasher,
Thank you for your good wishes. :) It gets better. Today I'm having lunch with a friend and fellow-PPRuNer at the Victoria Flying Club's airport cafe. After my winter sojurn in Saigon, I'm going to be moving to the Island. I will be discussing flying opportunities with him. He has a Nanchang CJ-6 and is also a glider pilot. Several years ago, I flew in a Remembrance Day formation. It was a memorable experience. After lunch, I'll be going to have closer look at the Mars, which I drove by the other day. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....de3162b95a.jpg Life in Lotus Land is very good. :) |
Leaving Victoria Harbour on the MV Coho ferry, I saw the “twin” of the “Maple Leaf Otter”! :)

Great to have you back IFMU! A five-month hiatus had me a little worried. When we lived in West Hartford, Connecticut, I always looked forward to driving past the Sikorsky facility in Stratford. There was always some action going on!

The great thing about flying behind a VW conversion is it's really cheap. I can buy a set of heads for the cost of a set of spark plugs for a 6 cylinder Lycoming. The bad thing about flying behind a VW is I've had many opportunities to gloat about how cheap the parts are.

IMFU, I know of what you speak! I owned for a brief period of time a two seat hovercraft which was powered by a V-Dub engine. On my first attempt to fly her off the beach at Lake Burton, GA, I couldn't achieve lift-off - not enough power to the lift prop, though I was reading a full 2,700 rpm on the tachometer. After puzzling over the problem for an hour with no joy, I decided to top off the five-gallon fuel tank with three gallons of premium (high octane) fuel. That was the ticket! Start engine, squeeze throttle (bike-handbrake handle mounted at top of control stick), and... liftoff! Altitude - 6 inches, check; stick full forward, check; off the beach and over water at 50 m.p.h., check! Left stick hardover and spin in frictionless counterclockwise circles at 45 m.p.h. and laugh ass off, check! Right stick to resume forward flight, return to shore and complete three pirouettes, check. Land, check. Laugh ass off again, louder! Receive inquisitive adulation from females crowding around my phenomenal new chick magnet, acquire visual lock on cleavage of adoring female crowd as they bend over in their bikinis to ask questions to their newest studly handsome hero, double check!! Take several beauties for hovercraft rides and arrange for rides of a different type later! Triple check!!! Turn about being fair play, right? One is fond of the barter economy, you see?
One glorious teenage time in the dead of Connecticut winter, my friend and I were cutting donuts on the iced-over school parking lot near his home. We were in his VW Type 1 Beetle. Achieve 30 m.p.h., lock brakes, steering wheel full left or right; let the fun begin. Round and round we'd go, laughing all the way. Until we encountered a large pothole which flipped us onto the Beetle's carapace! An observer would have seen a big fat grey ice skater performing a triple Axel. After centripetal force had released us from its forceful grip, we opened the Dub's door, rolled out, stood up, and flipped the Bug back on its four rubber "legs" with ease. We drove to my friend's home and drank large cups of hot chocolate with minuscule marshmallows arrayed like miniature flotillas on top! Ah! The joys of adolescence... Thus, IMFU, I share your admiration for German-engineered air-cooled four bangers! Ve haf vays to make joo pay ze maintainanze costz. Now its time for a Waiex video featuring you and your son! - Ed :D |
We have been down for maintenance since May. Worked through some oil temperature and pressure issues and did our first 2-up flight over the airport. Shortly after this picture was taken, voltage went over 15. The EarthX battery isolated itself and a total electrical failure ensued.https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....60c22d52e4.png
