Sorry to miss everybody, the 30 knot N-Easterly was not going to be compatible with an aircraft that flies at 45 knots.
Maybe next time. G |
Sorry people, wimped out. Spent Saturday evening at Le Touquet (Westminster Hotel v pleasant) and on Sunday made it to Bourn via N Weald, but felt too tired to go to Kemble and then slog back against howling easterly wind. Over ambitious flying schedule, I guess. Still, hooray for the first proper flying weekend in millenia. Viz wondrous: white cliffs plainly visible from the BNE VOR well inland of Boulogne. Hope all who went had fun.

Hi Guys
Chili, Girl Flyday -nice to meet you (briefly!). Saw u in the distance Whirl -hallo again. Had to dash back to White Waltham for lunch I was hosting. Superb vis on way back -in excess of 50 miles -could see S'ton Water and IOW easily from above CPT. Don't we deserve it!!! So, been there, next? I'm at RGV, Gloucester tomorrow and Tue with 'NU if anybody wants to say hello!! Regards Lima Mike |
It was nice to meet you all. Chilli M... You are right, we are Trouble makers.
|
There was a very good turnout at The Bourn Butty fly-in, hope all who went to Kemble had an equally enjoyable time.
As there seems to be a fair number who frequent both PPRuNe and the Flyer List, maybe we should try and do a joint one sometime. WF. |
Hey Everyone!!
Sorry for the intrusion, but looked like a good amount of interest for forming a regular GA pprune/fly-in/bacon butty type club thing. If anyone fancies a meet up @ either Compton Abbas or Popham then i am more than willing to gee up the owners for a mass invasion, and get the streakey bacon in! Cheers Foxxy |
Well, the PPRuNe Private Flying Fly-in finally happened :) :) :)
Girl Flyday and I got there after an interesting trip against a 30 kt headwind, which didn't prevent us taking a sightseeing tour of the Severn Bridge on the way, but did mean it took us ages and that DOC.400 left while I was paying for fuel. However, Chilli Monster acted as our private taxi service from the fuel pumps to the cafe, and afterwards we met Skylark4, AC-DC, GulfstreamV, and New Bloke. If I've missed anyone out of that list my sincere apologies - put it down to the wind throwing my little heli around and destroying my few remaining brain cells. Anyway, it was really great to meet you all, and sorry the others couldn't make it; I ran out every time a microlight flew in to see if Genghis had arrived, as I thought he flew in any conditions - but obviously there are limits. Getting back was fun for us with a 30 kt tailwind too! Yes, I'd love to go to Compton Abbas or Popham as I haven't been to either, but as a veggie I'll give the streaky bacon a miss - cheese butties for me please. ------------------ Whirly To fly is human, to hover, divine. |
Curses! Still bogged in I'm afraid. Glad everyone who made it had a good time. Looking forward to the next one.

Next Flyer List event hasn't been decided yet but there is some interest in meeting up in Galway on 1 April. Any takers from PPRuNe?
PS some pictures of Bourn today at http://www.thehangar.co.uk/bourn/panoramic.html |
Well, I went to both, the Bacon buttys were superb, the welcome fantastic and I won't leave it so long next time. Lindsay was in top form and we had to drag ourselves away.
Kemble was a very pleasant suprise and it was lovely to see so many of you, sorry I had to dash off, but the 30kt headwind was a constant nag in my mind. It took us 1.5 hours to get back to Redhill. A great day, sorry I missed the PPRuNers at Bourn, we left at about 11:30 just as it was getting busy. Edited for me spellin' [This message has been edited by New Bloke (edited 14 January 2001).] |
I got to Kemble about 13.00 ish, but unfortunately did not meet any of you. Great vis (We spotted Kemble from about 25 miles out - a first for me I must say!) Very friendly bunch - hope to meet up some other time.
------------------ Pessimism : Don't try it, it'll never work |
Well that was interesting.
Thank you for being indentifiable Whirly and Girl Flyday. Knowing who you were enabled me to introduce myself. I had no idea who all the others in the room were. 40 min to get there. 1hour 05 to get back. Lorries on the road were overtaking me until I cheated and went low so that the wind couldn`t see me. Here`s to the next time, in the warm I hope. Mike W |
We need some way of identifying ourselves next time. Maybe hats like the Flyer List have. Anyone got any ideas?
Hey! My 500th Post!!! :) :) :) :) :) ------------------ Whirly To fly is human, to hover, divine. [This message has been edited by Whirlybird (edited 14 January 2001).] |
Hey Whirleybird,
You said you'd get your 500th post today! Nice meeting you all - definately up for some more of that sort of thing. Happy flying GV |
Nice one Whirly, the Phirst Pprune Phly-in and Phive Hundred posts on the same day. Must be a record Mr. Guiness!
|
Whirlybird, great trip - despite the rather bumpy conditions! Nice flying! And great to meet everyone else who made it down there - hope we can do it again soon!
Welshbwoy - sorry you missed us! Try taking a look at www.heather.flyer.co.uk/kemble.htm, and see if you recognise any of us! http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/frown.gif |
Popham and Compton Abbas are both well worth the visit. But, personally I think the food is far better at Compton Abbas.

There's a naughty comma crept into the end of Girl Flyday's link, try this one instead...

After queuing for 45 minutes to get fuel and then working our way through the tailback onto our hard runway back at base, we finally arrived at Bourn at 15.30 on the 14th after a nice smooth 40 minute flight (without the aid of the GPS)! Still people flying in after us. Nice cup of tea in friendly surroundings, then flew off back home into the setting sun. Magic!
Roll on Compton Abbas. Dates? |
Cahlibahn,
I’d be a runner for Galway on April 1. HP |
