Private Pilots Forum - its official

Following on from the 'Wot about a PPL's Forum' I wrote to Danny Fyne. His view, which I think is probably the right one, is to rename this forum to encourage the 'Non-Professionals' amongst us to use it as a PPL+ forum.

All we need is a name. Out goes 'Biz Jets and GA' in comes..... What???

We need your suggestions for a forum which allows us PPLs to rant and rave; includes our GA bretheren (and the biz-jet poseurs)but is clearly not aimed afor the airline people.

Your suggestions please on this thread....C'mon lowNslow you can start.

What about:
'Private Flying and GA' or
'PPL and General Aviation'

I'll put all the sensible suggestions to PPrune HQ and let them decide. From then on its up to us PPLs to get the Forum going.

All chip in please.....

Right then Rightstuffer:

Looks like I'm first

I'm a PPL PPruner myself, so don't take this
the wrong way (just trying to make it humorous)....what about the "Puddle Jumpers to Jets (GA)" Forum?

Hungry Pilot 18th August 2000 01:37

This is the PROFESSIONAL Pilot's Rumour NEtwork!

So go play with your little toys somewhere else.

Bye...

TikkiRo 18th August 2000 01:56

I'm only starting out (haven't even had my 1st PPL lesson yet)in flying, but originally came to this forum following the advice of my FI to be who happens to be a BA Cpt. I presumed I would find like-minded individuals here, but instead am discovering a whole new brand of egotists. Probably doesn't help that I'm female - no doubt there are some here who would slate that fact as well. I have to ask Hungry Pilot what the heck he's hungry for.... obviously not any form of mingling in the ranks or allowing the (in his warped opinion) lower echelons of the aviation industry to have any form of furthering their interest on a site such as this. Having read a lot of posts on this entire site, I would nearly (but only nearly) have to ask - "When is a pilot NOT a pilot?? When he's a Pprune!".

I came to this site eagerly anticipating being able to 'talk' to others who have gone down the PPL road who could advise or help me in the way forward. So GO for getting us our own area one way or another and let those with a bad attitude go elsewhere - what are they doing in this section anyway??

FlyingV 18th August 2000 04:11

HP,

what did you learn to fly in ? A 757 ?

Regards,
V. (a student pilot)

BTW, I'm a computer professional - maybe I should object to a pilot like HP using the Internet until he gets a degree & 10 years experience in I.T. ;)

BTBTW, I like the 'Private Flying & GA' option.

Decided you can have your own forum. Thread moved to the Private Flying Forum.

I too came to this site to try to get advice on the way to forward my career or interests in aviation and I am on the verge of asking Danny to delete my profile because I am sick of the attitude that some people adopt on the issues discussed.

I am all for someone having an opinion and for free speach but there are people on this site that use it only to personally attack other people.

Some people, me included should engage brain before submitting a reply, this is mainly due to lack of knowledge of the subject or issue. Can we please start to correct people in a civil manner. I want to learn from your experience.

Well pleading over I'm glad we have our own forum lets keep it civil and set an example to others.

touch & go 18th August 2000 16:42

Isn't Hungry Pilot a sad case !!!
He was never a student pilot or a private pilot or a commercial pilot,,,,,,he went straight to ATPL from day one and straight onto the big jets,,,,,no playing with little toys for this boy.

Of course he must have gotten his ATPL out of a Cornflakes packet,,,and the big jets are in his dreams.

I have a lot of friends who drive big jets and their attitude to us PPL's is fantastic...Jumpseat rides and plenty of time to give good advice... One guy who drives a B767 asked me if I would take him for a ride in a C172....

I have found Professional pilots to be great guys and girls very willing to mix it with us humble PPL's

Good luck to this forum , and thanks Capt. Pprune.

arrow2 18th August 2000 19:34

I suspect that HP does actually have a very small toy - perhaps he should go away and play with it for a while to loosen up his arrogant attitude!!!

Anyway thanks Danny - it is now up to all us PPLs to use the forum. There must be a wealth of experience out there that we can all share. Touring / best practice / training advice (although careful re individual school comments!!)/ stories / aircraft purchase etc etc......

go for it.....

rightstuffer 18th August 2000 19:40

Thanks Capt PPrune. Lets try and get this forum off to a reasonable start.
Firstly TikkiRo - thanks for your interest. If you e-mail me I will fix you up with your first flying lesson. I have the aircraft if you can find the time...

Incidentally, don't be put off by Hungry Pilot. You can tell from both his name and his attitude that he isn't one - probably an out-of-work ice-cream salesman with time on his hands. Ignore him.

CityFlyer 18th August 2000 20:41

Oooh this is fun. Let's call the new forum "Hungry Pilot Bashing"!!

Rightstuffer: Good idea. Let's talk avation quickly before the price of oil kills off all GA. Hurry, we haven't got long.

TikkiRo: Being female is not a problem. Worrying about it is a problem. Just fly.

arrow2: You're disgusting. Don't change.

Hungry Pilot: Have you ever tried aerobatics? That's where you fly and have fun at the same time. It gets rid of pent up emotions. And it doesn't make as much mess as arrow2's suggestion.

Right, I'm off to Private Flying Forum. Thanks Captain. Have a lovely weekend.

R22 18th August 2000 22:09

I'm glad we've finally got this forum. Now those of us who fly for fun and change our minds every week or so as to whether we're really wannabes (depending on the state of our bank balances) needn't wonder quite where we fit into PPRuNe. TikkiRo, quite a lot of us are female too; it just isn't always obvious. Come in the chat room some evening - we often outnumber the guys! And with over 17,000 registered now, there are bound to be some prats - and they often make a lot of noise - but by no means everyone; stick around and you'll see.

TikkiRo 18th August 2000 22:59

Oh boy - I haven't stopped laughing since reading the rest of the posts after mine last night - nice to know I'm not alone in my feelings. THanks to Cpt Pprune for granting us this. Keep me here at any rate.

Rightstuffer - email on its way to you as you requested.

And thanks R22 - does help to know there are more of us around than some of the posts indicate. Did have an idea having just read this months issue of Pilot and the article about the bash in the Ash - very interesting reading.

Keep up the fun :)

"This is the PROFESSIONAL Pilot's Rumour NEtwork! So go play with your little toys somewhere else.

Rude? Patronising? Stupid? Of course.
Only 16 words but they have generated hundreds of words, and much personal abuse, in response.
If this new forum is to be a success, would it not be better just to ignore such posts rather than try to be even more offensive in response?

TikkoRo: In both your posts on this forum, you appear to attach importance to whether Ppruners are male or female. Does it matter? Surely what matters is that we are all pilots/would-be pilots, regardless of gender?

Hungry Pilot 19th August 2000 01:02

I wouldn't NEVER let any of you little head cases onto the flight deck of my aircraft.

I'll say it again: this website is for professional pilots (ie. Airbus A330 Drivers like myself) and not you tossers. There are plenty of other places on the net where you all can congregate.

Bye now...

...and will the Flying Ambulance Chaser please report to D block ASAP.

Flying lawyer,

Where do you get the bouncy smily? (I know its probably really simple, but bear with me)

Can I get one?

Thanx

R22 19th August 2000 01:38

Hungry Pilot, if you have a problem concerning who PPRuNe is for, I suggest you take it up with Captain PPRuNe. And, since you feel as you do, can I suggest you STAY OUT OF THIS FORUM!

PPRuNe Pop 19th August 2000 02:45

Hungry Pilot. Your rude and unecessary remarks are not welcome.

If you don't like this forum, or this website, you are free to remove yourself from it altogether.

This is not a website just for Professional Pilots, and since you MAY not have passed through the PPL ranks. OR,you may not be a pilot at all! Please refrain from making stupid comments. And better yet try to encourage PPL's.

Don't rise to the bait, Hungry Pilot could well be a throber69 clone and is just provoking a reaction to spice up his life! Ignore!
