Please add me to the list. Might either fly in or catch a lift with Simjock.

Suction - excellent site
Just checking if I can get a day releae but very keen, PA28 from EGTE |
First of all, thanks guys for keeping this thread going while I've been too busy to do it myself.
Next, FNG, you're right - Genghis does seem to have missed me off! I'll definitely be going, probably in the Super Cub (unless I find a well-payed job before then which enables me to buy a share in my own aircraft!) Now, as for the organising. I said I'm quite happy to organise this, but it seems to have been doing a good job of organising itself over the last few weeks, with some help from Genghis. I notice that Irv has also been doing a bit of organising in trying to enable students to fly in - an excellent idea, Irv, if it works. I'm more than happy to have any help I can get with the organisation, but this event looks like it's going to be very popular, and I'm a little worried about having too many chiefs and not enough indians. So, Genghis and Irv, can you both please e-mail me at and we can swap phone numbers. The same goes for anyone else who wants to help out with the organisation. There's not that much organising to do - the list of people and aircraft going needs maintaining, and someone should let the guys at Popham know that we're coming - but at least if you guys who want to get involved make sure you're talking to me, I can make sure everything gets done, and nothing gets done twice. (I nearly always check my e-mail every day, even if I don't have time to read PPRuNe forums, so this should be effective!) Cheers! FFF. .----------- |
From the Popham site, will it get as busy as this?

Yep me too, PA28 or PA28R from EGKA assuming I can a) get a pink ticket from Mrs Rimmer and b) get an a/c
|
Wx permitting I'll be there in the Pitts!
Stik |
Stik - step one: swap purple single seater for two-seater... step two: pick Hersh up on way down.
:) |
Suction
If you get a moment please re post your website URL. I'm having probs with by ice age PC and have lost your site, but will def. be coming and can offer seats from E Anglia or anywhere en route(preferably one stop only) Hoping to fly in lose formation with Stik : not sure if anyone has fixed to pick up the Kentish Fledgling. . .Cheers Cusco |
Cusco - no problem, the URL is http://www.shortfinals.flyer.co.uk
(bcfc - many thanks !) By my reckoning - there are 42 interested now. Cheers Suction |
Is Popham a Customs Concession field? If not where would be the best place to do the Customs bit for an aircraft inbound from NL?
|
Hershie - the 2 hole Pitts is available but at a price!
Cusco - spoke to young Kent dweller last night, he's skiing with Dad at my my friend's gaff. Will ensure that he is aware of the fly-in. He looks at Pprune but there is no PC in the chalet! Hope to fly this w/e if you are about. Stik |
Sorry should have said if I fly in it might be a C172 or PA28 from Henlow or joining Simjock in a PA28 from Shoreham.
|
Flypuppy
For Customs from the NL use Shoreham then pick up the Midhurst VOR for Popham Wunper |
Stik and Cusco!
Young Kent dweller is back from "suicide blading" in the words for Stik! (the visitor's book Al...!) So guys, what's the plan? Mis-da Runway |
MdR and Stik
For Popham from my strip its a dogleg E of London city then DET-BIG-OCK through Mig alley. No probs therefore to pop in to Rochester to pick up Kentish fledgling, while Stik does a few noisy purple circuits overhead and annoys the locals with some aeros. However if you're who I think you are MdR you're based at Rochester anyway and you might like to do the honours: just a thought: such enthusiasm needs encouraging. No probs either way. Stik: my flying this weekend I'm afraid will be restricted to flying the Arrow down to N Weald on Sunday for its annual and notice 75. However, if there are any hours left (only 7 end Dec) I might be able to come out to play on Sat. Good job I've got 2 weeks in Florida at end of next week for some serious instrument practice. Cheers |
Stik - I'll take a guess at what the cost of the 2 seater is and just ask for a look round the purple monster on the ground instead!
Maybe one of those 'hot and high' final approaches would be enough to scare the wits out of a not-qualified-yet-PPL anyway...? Nah! :) Hersh |
Cusco,
MdR is NOT who you think he is! More paediatric than geriatric! How long a grass strip do you need for the Arrer? Hope that we bump into each (not literally) on Sat as the wx looks v flyable so far. Stik ps - Hershie the 2A works out at £3/minute wet and has just come out of annual. If you are ever in Norwich we could do 20 mins perhaps? |
Well done Irv!
For those students who think they'll be able to con an instructor into joining them, or even letting them solo, Irv has negotiated a £5 landing fee, including several touch+go's if you want, at Blackbushe. (Don't know exactly what their regular landing fee is - my airport guide says "from £14.89 + VAT") So, the plan is as follows:
[*]Fly to Blackbushe. (Get PPR first - not only to get practice of getting PPR, but also to confirm the PPRuNe landing-fee!) Since this is a licensed field, you can log this flight.. .[*]Do a few touch+goes. Because of landing fees, students in the UK hardly ever get to do touch+goes at unfamiliar airfields, so take the chance while you've got it!. .[*]Once you depart Blackbushe, your instructor becomes P1, and you can't log the short flight to Popham.. .[*]If you're solo, you'll need to park your aircraft at Blackbushe, and call me on my mobile - I'll arrange for someone to come and ferry you to Popham, and ferry you back again afterwards.. .
Any pilots who are happy to ferry students, can you please let me know? The more ferry pilots we have, the fewer trips each of us will have to make. I think it would be great to get as many student pilots down as we possibly can! (Or alternatively, if you're going past Blackbushe, or even based there, let me know, and I'll try to put you in touch with a student who you can pick up on the way.) FFF. .-------- |
I'm a 'probable' for this one:. .It's not my week on the kite...
G-AYDZ - Jodel DR.200 - Enstone. [she's a four-seater, but other group members may want the spare seats. If there are any left, then I'll offer them out. Departures from Enstone and Oxford (if the pax pays the landing fees)] |
FFF, I can ferry people to and from Blackbushe if need be, but perhaps a better suggestion is to make the Cap available for 20 minute aeros trips for those who might want such things.
|
FFF, I am also based at the Bushe and as long as I can get my Arrow will be happy to ferry 2 people to Popham and back again.
A2 |
It sounds as though its going to be a really good day and I'm seriously hacked off that I can't make it!!!
Can we fix a date for 2003 & I'll keep it free now! Anyway , enjoy yourselves & I hope the weather is perfect for you. |
Stik - thanks for the offer. I'll collect contact details from you on the day and give you a buzz when next in the City Of Cathedrals. Do you realise the 2 seater earns more than most footy mangaers a year?
FNG - aeros? I should coco! Stick me down for a sesh This is going to be a blinder! |
FFF, you may be doing Blackbushe a disservice! From their site:
"Blackbushe Airport will continue to offer reduced landing fees for single and twin engined aircraft visiting Blackbushe at weekends. The offer is applicable to all private and flying school aircraft. Landing fees will be reduced by at least 50% to £5.00 inclusive of VAT for single engined aircraft and twins charged at £8.00 inclusive of VAT up to 2700kg. Catering facilities are available and fuel is available at competitive prices." |
Ah, well in that case, that would make Blackbushe a nice weekend visit any time! And there was me thinking that we'd got some kind of special treatment from them.....
FFF. .----------- |
Oh go on then!!!!! You really don't have to twist my arm. Whatever I can get my hands on from EGNX ..... see you there.
Auto |
Sorry, haven't been watching for a while:. .The fiver inc vat at B'bush is not meant to be a special PPRUNE rate, - when I approached them I found this is their weekend rate and such good value (includes a t+g or 2) that it is not worth negotiating down - it's just there for the taking, but PPR first.. .Now as BBushe is NE of Popham, is that enough for any student pilots, or do you want me to see what others will offer in other directions? Not much point in wasting time trying to get a negotiated deal at anywhere else if no-one wants it or is going to use it.. .ps: let me know if anyone wants a Popham brief, and also Customs IS available at Popham without diverting anywhere - just needs the usual 4 hours notice to the usual London number.
|
Ohhh!
Are we less fortunate PPRuNers with no aeros capability going to be treated to a show by those with such capabilities? Would be nice! I'm there hopefully. |
I'm just back from Orlando, where I got to fly an R44 for the first time - along the beach at 300 ft, but that's irrelevant to this anyway. Well, they told me it was just like a big R22, and it is. So I'm doing some hour building in LA in April, and hoping to do the R44 conversion. If I do, and manage to get it on my UK licence by June (every type needs a conversion for helis in the UK, not in US ), then I'll possibly have THREE seats available from Wolverhampton (Halfpenny Green) for the Fly-in; not sure of cost but should be around £70-80/hour per person. It's by no means definite, but if you might be interested then e-mail me, and tell me how much you weigh as I think there can easily be weight problems 4-up in an R44.
I really fancy landing at Popham in a big heli with three passengers. :) |
Flypuppy. .Use Lydd. They are not busy and on your way. Landing fees ~£15.
|
Just an idea:
Does anyone out there have any real formation-flying experience? If so, would you be happy to organise a formation flight for any pilots who wanted to take part? From my very brief attempts at formation-flying, it is quite hard work, and I obviously don't intend to put any pressure on anyone to participate if they don't feel up to it. (Unless there's an experienced pilot who wants to brief us very thoroughly first, I won't participate myself if there are more than 3 aircraft involved.) If the guys with experience of this kind of thing come back and say it's completely impractical for inexperienced pilots to fly in a moderately-sized formation, then we'll scrap the idea! But if the experts reckon it could be done safely, I think it would be fun! Any other ideas for activities? Apart from the flying in and socialising, which will obviously be the main attraction! FFF. .--------- |
Aeros display perhaps?
Again, scrap idea if inpractical or unsafe. If we do get to see a fly by formation and some aeros, this could turn out to be a wicked day! Rusty |
flypuppy
sorry for the late reply, but you can fly directly to popham from the land o'clogs fax the usual details to.... .customs - +44 1752 234603. .sb (if needed) - +44 2392 899087 if in doubt give the airfield a buzz |
Lets keep this one at the top!. .. .A2
|
You're right, A2. Let's keep this thing alive!!. .. .Merlot
|
Back to the top.... .. .I'm hoping to take the Cherokee instead of the C152, so if someone would like to sit in the back, email me or post here! Might be able to squeeze two in... if you're little. Popham does have fuel right?
|
100LL on demand up to about 5pm.. .. .G
|
Since neither AerBabe nor I have been to Popham before (I've flown over it several times but never landed) we decided to head down there on Saturday morning to check the place out. We managed to get all of about 10 miles from White Waltham before running into the crappy weather in front of that big occluded front - the crappy whether which was forecast to not arrive until between 1 and 3 hours later!. .. .But June is a long way off, and I know the weather will be better by then! . .. .FFF. .---------

FFF, You and me both - I was heading from the Bushe to Thruxton - Cavok, unltd blue on departure, but cloud cover down v low just east of Basingstoke and Lasham was reporting fog - heard a heli on Farnborough looking at putting down in a field! Quick U turn!. .. .A2
|
We probably heard each other on 125.25 in that case, arrow2! Plenty of people telling Farnborough they were turning around, that's for sure...
