Hangarage Wanted

Don't laugh: does anyone have or know of space in a hangar close to London, preferably to the north, north west or north east. I'm looking to house a Cap10 (which is quite small). All enquiries at the busier fields have drawn blank so far, but I wonder if there is a private strip with a shack on it somewhere.

FNG

drop me a note - not sure that I can help but have a couple of ideas - all depends how far out of London you'd be prepared to keep it.

Sweet aeroplane - flew one in France with an excellent aero instructor a couple of years back - probably need to go back again now!

Try Bill Bowker at Rush Green on 01438 355051. Although the hanger is quite full, he does have a separate small hanger which has just been vacated by an RV6A.

Rush Green is a 550m grass strip South of Hitchin, not too bumpy with 100LL available. To find it on your chart, look under the Luton zone!

It is a fair way (about 1hr north from London) but you could also try Top Farm. Very pleasant (see photo on page 85 of December's 'Flyer'. Email me if you want a contact number.

Thanks for your help. Since posting the request the possibility of a space at Booker has come up, but I will also look into the other options. Stiknruda: I'll email you.

LownSlow: I wonder if that RV6A is the one a friend has recently bought and which is now stuck in the mud at his farmstrip in Shropshire (strip temporarily obstructed by Sea Hurricanes).

Thanks again.

Try Intrepid Aviation at North Weald. I believe they may have some space. A Cap 10 would be a welcome addition to the Field.

LowNSlow 20th November 2000 16:51

FNG. no, it just moved from the small hanger into the main hanger.

FNG 22nd November 2000 13:42

Thanks Southern Cross: North Weald would be my first choice. I had been told all hangars full but may have been misinformed so will give Intrepid a bell.

LowNSlow 22nd November 2000 14:20

North Weald was full last time I asked (about 5 months ago) with no sign of change in the near future.

PPS are suppose to be building a new hanger at High Wycombe but it will be very expensive (£230 / month) plus THEY like to do the maintenance on YOUR aeroplane (not much good for PFA types).

Good Luck

On-site engineering (at Wycombe or at NW) is a definite plus in this case as the a/c is to be operated on a public C of A (so that the QFI member of the group can lawfully frighten aeros punters).

LowNSlow 22nd November 2000 18:13

Rush Green has a semi-resident engineer plus the owner is an engineer and ex-RN pilot who used to fly a few of the Shuttleworth aircraft. They are experienced in a wide variety of aircraft but especially the wood / tube and fabric taildragging variety.

As an extra bonus, their rates are very competetive.

By the way, I just rent hanger space there, I'm nothing to do with the running of the place, just appreciate a good airfield.

That's interesting, do you know if the engineer can do JAR 145 maintenance?

LowNSlow 22nd November 2000 21:34

Wassaatt? If it's Public Transport then I think so but will check and come back to you. He was the resident engineer when there was a crop spraying operation based there so I assume he's familiar with Public Transport.

A and C 22nd November 2000 23:12

Low n slow public transport and JAR 145 are not the same thing as the company has to be aproved for JAR 145 and the engineer may not have a licence but a company authorisation.

I think it was better when the engineers had to be licenced by the CAA as it dont take long for the tea boy to get a limited and simple authorisation bu you can bet that you will still pay licenced engineer rates.

LowNSlow 23rd November 2000 14:52

THanks for that A and C.

FNG, I've just spoken to the owner and at the moment they have no space. However a Rheims Rocket that is currently there is due to move shortly and a space will be available. If you drop Bill Bowker a line on 01438 355051 then he will let you know when the space is free.

Unfortunately, the maintenance is for Private C of A and PFA types only I'm afraid.

FNG 23rd November 2000 14:55

The JAR 145 thing comes in because of some proposed commercial utilisation of the a/c (not just instruction). On-site engineeering is desirable, but not essential.
