Christ!.................Thank goodness. I thought we were off again.

My view is that we are where we are with Oban. Sure they could have achieved much of what was needed at a fraction of the cost but we cant turn the clock back.
The ops guys at Oban are trying hard to make you welcome. I've been over a couple of times of late (I suspect with a few of the other posters hiding behind pseudonames), its still a great place to visit and the scenery hasn't changed. Also Paul is still there dispensing fuel, the GA community really should try to support him as much as possible its thanks to fuel at Oban that has opened up much of the rest of the west coast. There was talk on the mega-thread of an Oban/Glenforsa flyin however that didn't come to much. Perhaps its time to resurrect these thoughts and show some positive support for the facility and people who's lively hood depends on it. |
silverknapper - I wonder how she's doing, that was indeed an historical thread!

Last seen enticing some hapless victim on a TV dating programme as I recall.:)

a steady stream Regretably, the only commercial (and I use that word with some leeway) traffic remains the HA flights to the islands 4 days a week. I don't see any other operators rushing to get started with other services. A steady stream? More like the occasional drip! It's a great facility and such a shame to see low traffic volumes. GS |
Maybe we should try to combine an Oban thread with a pink headset thread and see if we can break something :E

I for one plan to get there this year from the deep south.

You cant beat the view from the airport at Oban on a nice sunny day! Either summer or winter the view is breath taking no matter which direction you look! Fantastic place to use as a base to explore further up the West coast and indeed to Inverness and the East travelling up the Great Glen. Fuel is available there which is in short supply once you leave the Central belt of Scotland!
The guys there are fantastic with nothing being too much trouble and if passing and fancy a quick stop I have called on the radio and never been refused a landing! There maybe a PPR rule but as with most things in aviation circumstances change and Oban Information seem to be very accommodating! One of the best airports I have visited! Keep up the good work! |
Oban Loony Toons
It has been announced that a new airfield manager has been appointed to run Oban, Coll and Colonsay.
Is this the 3rd or 4th in the last year? WW |
They used to have a perfectly good one who also runs the refuelling operation.

Why are they getting through managers so quickly. With the amount of commercial traffic I would have thought this is a cushy stress free number:ok:

The poor guy is probably being persecuted by the local ratepayers.

I understand the BN2 operated by Highland Airways has had pretty good load factors since its start of operation.....I also understand that an Oban-Islay service is planned for the coming Summer!!:ok:
|
pretty good load factors It will be good to see a service to Islay, but will it be supported by the public purse or stand alone. If the latter, a phrase involving the words cat, hell and chance springs to mind. GS |
