Great post. As some folk have already said, isn't it interesting how different an impression one can get of someone from their writing to what they are really like. And yet online dating is so popular..... I wonder how many are disappointed when they meet "in the flesh" for the first time?

PilotDar - Ontario? Whereabouts? My relatively regular stop there is Carp, CYRP. Great folks, and a really nice airport :)

Of course I wouldn't know ;) but it actually works quite well. It works because you know the other person is definitely "looking" so it cuts out the usual silly society games. The best strategy is to swap pics, basic details, and then meet up ASAP without getting into much correspondence. The people who go for months of emails are usually shocked when they meet up because anybody with more than half a brain can create a pretty good (bogus) impression in the written language :)

Whereas here on pprune almost everybody is trying to be anonymous indefinitely :) So you get months of postings and one forms the wrong impression from them. Actually a careful reader can detect the made-up tales here too...

Have been away for a few days over Christmas, only just seen this thread. Laughed out loud at the first post !

Get together is a great idea, given time to prepare I'd be game for almost anywhere, but central in the country would seem sensible !

Has also reminded me, Whirlybird, I promised to drop in and say hello at Tatenhill one Saturday, didn't I ? ! Promise I'll get round to that in the New Year !

Can't fly as much as I used to due to a forthcoming wedding and new house to start the family in. Still come and read the forums though, still keeping the license going. Made me smile to see this thread around at Christmas time.

Hope it's appropriate to mention we recently had a modest "low countries pprune private flyers" meet with just three Belgians - or rather, three pilots living in Belgium - one looking precisely exactly as I had pictured, though I am usually not good at this game; the other was not too far off either, only he was at least 20 years younger than I had imagined... Daren't wonder what they thought of me.

PS even if the meet was modest in its concept, setting, and budget, it certainly was a merry one, and called for a repeat. Might even grow into a "low countries pprune private pilot's fly-in" somewhere in spring, if that ever comes.

I still recall my amusement, 5 years ago, at the very creative post which started this thread. Merry Christmas Pompey Paul, and PPRuNers...

Get together! Why not "borrow" a table or two at Sywell Rally next August put up a sign "Meet the Pprunes"? And see who turns up?
Just an idea.

When I think of those "little special things" at Christmas time, this thread comes to mind. Over the years, and after many pleasant meetings with PPRuNers (one just this week), I like to remind myself that there are very nice, interesting people behind these identities. Those people "make" PPRuNe.

Beyond correcting each others facts, and attempting to influence their opinions, it's nice just to enjoy the thought of a group with a common enjoyed interest, and the generous attitude to jump in and participate.

Merry Christmas PPRuNers, and particularly Pompey Paul, wherever you are...

Pilot DAR, thanks for resurrecting this thread. I'd forgotten it and I had a good laugh about the description of me. "Militaristic and invariably correct" ????? Noooo.... And I still wish I could rotate my head 360 degrees.

Here too, a broad grin and a well-meant "THANK YOU" to Pilot DAR who has done a good deal effort for all of us. Well done, Sir!
