I'll have to give this one a miss as I'll only have just got back from the US

Valiant 7th Aug 2002 11:39

I'm hoping to be able to make it this time. It'll just be a short hop for me from Hinton.
My brother-n-law flies helicopters from Sywell, maybe I can drag him along so Whirlybird will have somebody to talk R22s with! :)

RotorHorn 7th Aug 2002 12:25

I'll hoping to make this (my first fly-in)!

Hoping to bring my twin brother as he's a regular at Sywell (Sloane's do the maintenance for his bosses A109 Power).

I'll be in an R22 or R44 depending on how many people want a lift from Blackpool, and if they don't mind cost-sharing. (LongFinal/VeeAny - you boys fancy a seat each?)

Anyway - I've stuck me details on the Hangar bulletin board.

regards from sunny (not) Blackpool.

Anyone from anywhere near London interested in a highly enthusiastic map-reading blonde passenger/TCAS?! (I'll even make silly whoop whoop noises if desired!)

Keef 7th Aug 2002 19:04

Penguina - if Sahfend "Sharon & Tracey International" (EGMC) is within range, there are seats available in G-UTSY. See the "booking" website as set up by tKF.

First come, first accommodated and all that.

sennadog 8th Aug 2002 07:34

Has anyone asked Sywell yet?

Well, have they? I don't know what the procedures are for this type of thing but it strikes me that they are going to have an awful lot of aircraft descending on them in October. Will there be enough room for everyone?

BlueRobin 8th Aug 2002 10:09

Aerbabe, Wellesbourne, grass? :D It's always been tarmac. We're only down the road from Coventry ;)

BlueRobin 8th Aug 2002 10:18

I'll have a try at getting there. Would be nice to meet Keef :p

Whirlybird 8th Aug 2002 10:41

sennadog,

Sywell's BIG. This isn't a little grass strip we're talking about; they'll cope.

Still, always a good idea to let airfield's know about fly-ins, so someone probably should tll them sometime.

Penguina 8th Aug 2002 12:07

Having problems figuring out the fly-in booking site; is it possible to reserve a place, or are these things done by e-mail?

The scarecrow's song from The Wizard of Oz springs to mind.........

BlueRobin 8th Aug 2002 12:15

Mr Penguin,

It's not very obvious how to put an entry on the fly-in list. Look on the bottom frame. See the number of small buttons? Third from the right "join the fly-in"

Yours etc

I have just called Frank Bird about it but he isn't there today. I will try again tommorow to get hold of him.
In the meantime, have a look at this.....Sywell web-site. :)

AerBabe 8th Aug 2002 12:39

BlueRobin... what can I say?

D'oh. :D

I blame it all on FlyingForFun. He wanted to fly up this way a few weeks ago, and thought Wellesbourne was grass. Did I laugh at him? Of course I did! So why did I then think it was grass? Probably too much chemical exposure in the lab that day.

Penguina 8th Aug 2002 16:25

Blue Robin,

Mmm, but that's for pilots wanting to sign up. I was trying to add my name to a list of passengers. Never mind, I might have a licence by then anyway.

It's a female penguin, by the way.

FlyingForFun 8th Aug 2002 17:02

Sorry for anyone who missed me over the last few weeks (yeah, like anyone except Evo even noticed :D ) As AerBabe said, I've been away doing some ATPL groundschool, then doing the first 8 exams. I think I've passed at least five or six of them, with two or three that I may have just scraped through, so please keep your fingers crossed for me!

In the mean time, you've all gone and arranged a fly-in without me! Well, ok, so I did have my spies keeping me up to date with (most of) what was going on - thanks AerBabe! But I'd never had voted for Sywell - the weather's guaranteed to be crap if I try to fly there! First time I ever went there I arrived without any problems, but had an "interesting" flight back, dodging between about a half a dozen different rain showers, nearly diverting several times, before eventually breaking clear of the weather - it was certainly hard work for someone who had only got his PPL a couple of months earlier! Second time I tried to go to Sywell I never even made it - vis was forecast at 5km and improving, but was actually 5km and deteriorating. Got to Northampton, only to find a huge bank of cloud directly over the city, with no way past. Turned around, but had the mid-day sun in my eyes, couldn't see a bl00dy thing! Diverted to Cranfield, and it was 3 days before the weather improved enough to bring the plane home!

Anyway, that aside, of course I'll be there! Should be flying the Europa, and will have one spare seat from White Waltham - e-mail me if you're interested. Have posted my details on the fly-in website. See you all there!

:) :) :)

sennadog 12th Aug 2002 13:14

So that's 12 aircraft. I'm assuming that the 707 isn't turning up.:D

LowNSlow 13th Aug 2002 09:00

Penguina I'll be going from the North London area, OK Luton area if you can get up here.

FFF it sounds like you should stay at home so that you don't jinx the weather :D :D : D

Some Moth type bods I know fly in there all the time and none have commented on the runway surfaces.....

buzby15 13th Aug 2002 09:23

Hi all, new to this particular forum but hope to be able to make 5 October. can't get there till lunchtime/early afternoon as working Friday night :( Will probably have 3 spare seats from Goodwood if anyone interested. Look forward to meeting people on the 5th.

Who has control? 13th Aug 2002 10:01

I'll try & make it from North Weald - normal caveats of weather, aircraft availability apply.

I'll have 1 or 2 spare seats.

Heres the booking form link again
