That is a very sorry looking camshalf in the top photo! :ooh:
|
They will make a nice job of it though, if the level of fuselage/wings work carries through to the engine.

I would hope so Sam...it's certainly seen better days.

Liberty Girl is looking much better. A recent comment elsewhere...
If I had been in Kirk's shoes I would have set fire to the Cub and got the next plane home https://s10.postimg.org/qv370t4mx/IMG_3155.jpg |
I do hope after all the effort from so many people, not to mention the donations that MK has received to get this bird in the air again that this time he keeps the thing in the air and gets it to the destination without crashing again.

I guess the race has concluded now?!

But my feeling is that he'll go off piste as he needs the attention. Why bother using floats when he has to cross 1000nm of desert? |
Hi Newforest2,
Yes, the Rally finished on the 16th December - but there is still the Botswanan Tiger Moth that also needs to finish after being damaged Maun. So the wooden spoon is still up for grabs! :-) |
If Kirk gets to Cape Town he deserves an award for the tenacity he has demonstrated in facing problems that frankly I doubt others could have overcome.
Of course it could be argued they were of his own making. 20/20 hindsight is a wonderful thing. He adds a bit of spice in this modern risk assessment obsessed world. This might be his last great adventure and at least he is out there enjoying life instead of languishing in an old folks home. |
There is a very interesting write up of the Rally which mentions Maurice Kirk in the latest edition of Pilot Magazine. Kudos to Sam and the participants. It must have been one hell of a thing to organise!
|
Maurice 'spreads his wings' on Ebay He is advertising - offers on £6,000 - a disassembled 1940 Taylorcraft, in need of 'some fuselage welding'.
He goes onto refer to funding several schools in Africa. |
|
It appears he is gathering funds to restore or repair the Cub and fly it to Cape Town.
