"Jenny Johnson is a big Daily Mail feature writer Terry"
But not so big with getting her facts straight, is she. As I asked you earlier, do you have any involvement with this? |
I have nothing to do with this and do not know Jenny Johnson.
I have checked and it appears it was a google cut and paste job done inside the Daily Mail newsroom. Sadly I have to concede others were right and Kirk was ill prepared for this trip both mentally and physically. Add to that an aircraft not fit for such an adventure, plus leaving the safety of the group, added to his woes. If what he posts is correct then his health must be the priority. The logistics of repairing and flying that aircraft out must excede its value. |
I spoke to a contact in the FCO in London yesterday, and they are talking to the Embassy in Juba. I think the message has got through, because in a recent and subsequent post on Facebook, Maurice talks about leaving quite soon, as an alternative to going to jail if he stays. He is clearly concerned about his aeroplane but all the advice I have from people in Kenya is that it is in "bandit country" where it is in S Sudan, and it is unlikely that anyone would go there to fix it. The best bet is for it to be put on a truck and taken to Kenya, although a few have commented that it has probably already been stripped of anything useful and is possibly not recoverable.
I fear that from here I can do little more to help, and shall leave it to Maurice, his daughter and close friends to manage the next step. My personal advice to Maurice would be to go to Nairobi if he is fit enough, from where he can manage the aircraft recovery to Kenya; and if not, to return to the UK so that his health recovers. Frankly, the aeroplane, even in the unlikely event of being recoverable, should be his his least concern. |
Frankly, the aeroplane, even in the unlikely event of being recoverable, should be his his least concern. The plane can be replaced, your (and your pax) life and health cannot, take care of that to the exclusion of the plane! |

Up to date video of Maurice's account of events:-
Veteran British pilot Maurice Kirk has had his share of mishaps... Stock Footage Video | Getty Images A big thanks to Terry and others. I pass what you do to the family and friends immediately you post. Thanks |
Ditto..... But do we know where Maurice is now ?
|
I started this thread and frankly I have now given up.
Despite a lot of help Maurice appears to be more focused on his ongoing litigation than his current problems in South Sudan. This from his facebook page https://www.facebook.com/maurice.kirk.92?ref=br_rs Ben Smith Ben Smith Maurice, you are leaving some of us here scratching our heads in wonder. You allegedly have malaria and an infected leg. You also have your machine to sort out with a long leg left if you are still contemplating finishing the flight down to the Cape. Why all this legal battle here? I think we all already know that the British legal system is broken and corrupt. Your cases alone display this, so we don't need any further convincing. My advice is thus > Get yourself a legally qualified McKenzie Friend to deal with all this. Get yourself and your aircraft better and concentrate with JUST that! Very best wishes. Perry Maurice - I have a friend called Iselle who is from Durban but now works in Malta. I have given her your african mobile number. She MAY have friends in Kenya. Good Luck, you have been good at getting out of scrapes in the past but you cannot do it on your own this time. Look at this video from the French news agency AFP. Not exactly on his last legs in what appears to be a bar selling Heineken and with wifi internet connection. Veteran British pilot Maurice Kirk has had his share of mishaps... Stock Footage Video | Getty Images I owe an apology to Terry Holloway and Sam Rutherford for wasting their time. |

This from his facebook page https://www.facebook.com/maurice.kirk.92?ref=br_rs I have it appears been misled drumming up publicity for him while he has another agenda. Yet he has the time and capacity with wifi to be banging on about his last 20 odd years with the South Wales judiciary system but no time to address the various aviation forums of which he is a member here and on the flyer forum. I have seen a few offers of assistance with spare parts on FB but no real response from MK, starting to wonder if he is just using the medical issues to raise symphony and funds to complete the trip to Cape Town. I see he has never provided any up to date pictures of the real damage to Liberty Girl II on Facebook !!!! |
Jay Sata Kirk appears to be up to his old tricks again. I hear via journo friends his family are more concerned about trying to get fees from a newspapers than getting the old boy home. There will be some deep rooted reason for all the Facebook posts regarding the South Wales Police, if you are allegedly so ill in somewhere such as South Sudan you certainly would not be wasting precious time and money banging on about the past. |
That video says it all.
Kirk is up and about and perfectly capable of defending himself . Look at the video .42 minutes in That shows Kirk on his computer with three bottles of hotel style water. There is also a western woman opposite him. I think that is Sabine McNeil in the AFP French news agency pictures with Kirk. She manages his PR! If you checkout the video above .42 minutes in he talks to 'Kevin' and mentions MAF? He looks perfectly fit to me. |
It is not Sabine in the photo. He does not have anyone to manage his publicity. The structure is he went out with no support at all. Things happened. You post here and i send that expertise to the family and friends asap.
The people in the video are merely like us, who rally around to help. |
Looking at the video he does seem to have an infected left leg. It's dusky in colour towards the ankle. He's limping slightly. The skin seems a little rough as if it's blistered. If he's had a few days of antibiotics then it looks about right for cellulitis that's getting better. Cellulitis that isn't getting better would be a big deal in the UK let alone the tropics - life-threatening if untreated; no big deal if you find the right antibiotic.
As for Malaria - it comes in cycles so you can be feeling reasonably well between episodes. As for water - in Africa - he should clearly be drinking plenty and probably avoiding tap water and ice cubes. Could his family be trying to raise funds to rescue him? The stories I've heard about him do nothing to endear him to me, but Maurice Kirk seems to be telling the truth about his leg. |
Regarding Ben Smith's comment regarding Maurice's ongoing legal problems, as far I know there is no such thing as a 'legally qualified McKenzie Friend', they have little status in the the court system and as far as I am aware have no rights as an advocate, unlike Maurice who can act for himself as a litigant in every court up to the supreme court.
|
Or he could instruct a legally qualified lawyer.:ugh:
|
Regards suggestion Maurice should use a lawyer:-
The costs for the other sides lawyers reached well over a £million a good while ago. The bare core papers started with the other side by Court Order presenting 57 lever arch files on which to base initial hearings at the start of one of the longest cases. How many Cubs can you buy for the fees lawyers would want from Maurice? Good lawyers for the particular niches of law are hard to find. But is there any point in paying huge fees and having a good lawyer if judges have already decided the outcomes in the judges' coffee lounge and based on the Marmite approach of some like him but they do not? As would any of us in this situation Maurice will make mistakes from being worn out. In which case could it be that supporting Maurice to make the most of this trip, in every way including good publicity so he can live as an adventurer as a way to fight back, a very decent thing to do? |
