Will this be a paid gig or is it charitable?

So she is going along to inspire youngsters into aviation is she...someonebeat her to it, they are already on the ladder in that field.

As for inspiration, might as well have a National Tax Advisor Award and get the newly formed firm of accountants along to do the honours: Dodd, Piggott and Carr.

Chris Martyr 2nd Mar 2017 20:50

Precisely SWB !
If she is going to inspire youngsters into aviation , then hopefully they will see that there is only one way they're going to get PROPER recognition in the aviation world.
And it's not through weaving a tissue of lies and deceit !
Would the NWAA have invited Dame Shirley Porter along to give an "inspirational talk" about affordable housing ?
Perhaps they really are that naïve !

The betting has opened on which candidate for the next HCAP award. This is what you call meritorious, even though it's nothing out of the ordinary in this day and age. :D

STORY ? Voyage of the Southern Sun

Sam Rutherford 3rd Mar 2017 05:41

We helped this one (as well!) and it was done as described!

Mike Flynn 3rd Mar 2017 07:08

Michael Smith's blog makes fascinating reading. A genuine unsupported solo adventure.

He flew direct from Attu Island in the Aleutians to Northern Japan which was an amazing 16.5 hour flight.

He probably won't qualify for a Master Medal as he is Australian and lacks the UK social connections.

Thanks for the link Megan.

Out of interest, is anyone planning to attend Dronetech Europe in Bristol on 10-11 May?

Speakers » Dronetech Europe Dronetech Europe

"Our speakers are the pioneers of the next generation of technology" - I don't think I've seen TCT described in this way before!

Mike Flynn 3rd Mar 2017 09:22

Surely Ewald should be alongside her in these engagments?

It would be nice to have answers to Jonzarnos questions.

Haraka 3rd Mar 2017 10:06

From the Drone tech site "TCT"page:

"Find out more about Tracy’s (sic) transatlantic flight at Tracey Curtis Taylor - Aviatrix, Adventurer, Inspirational Speaker"

:)

Find out more about Tracy’s (sic) transatlantic flight
I have no doubt that she was the sole manipulator of the controls *

* of the entertainment system on her seat in 1st Class........

I've tried to be balanced in the things I've posted on this thread and not to "pile on" to the criticisms and accusations posted by others; this despite the fact that I can't get answers to three simple questions that we know she has seen.

I have to say though that this claim, if not independently substantiated or disavowed in public as a mistake or misquote, really takes the biscuit!

Midlifec 3rd Mar 2017 14:27

I tried to watch "They Flew Alone" on iPlayer the other day, TCT has kinda spoiled it for me but I could see where some of the trite nonsense she spouts has come from. As regards the continued speaking engagements, I have no doubt that she will very carefully craft her output to avoid the lies she has previously spouted to the public but is aware that someone in the know will eventually publicly ask one of those awful questions she cannot or will not answer. It ought to feel like tiptoeing through a minefield for her.
What a great role model !

Haraka 3rd Mar 2017 14:44

Tracy’s (sic) transatlantic flight
Actually this is probably an innocent transcription error. If it was coming directly from the TC-T camp the word "epic" would doubtless have found its way in to the script somewhere (although of course, on precedent, any correction to such a spurious assertion would also be unlikely to be immediately forthcoming).

"Our speakers are the pioneers of the next generation of technology"
Seems an odd fit for an 'old bird in a biplane alongside the many and varied young techno types listed; interesting as well as I've not heard of any of them and I'm fairly well connected with the RPAS world in the UK and EU.
Worth noting that speakers at these types of event are often nominated by no one other than themselves or a 'sponsor' with a vested interest in promoting a commercial product; don't see any of the usual suspects although might there be a link to 'Women in Film and Television UK' perhaps?
Southampton University is in there as well although it's Portsmouth that Tracey has an affiliation to I believe?

Right Hand Thread 3rd Mar 2017 23:34

TCT speaking on aviation technology? A bit odd coming from someone who always used to go to great lengths to say that she doesn't 'do' technology.

Times must be hard.

Tracey Curtis Taylor and Wiki

If you google Tracey Curtis Taylor on wiki and look at the edit history then this editors name crops up.

Hillbillyholiday

I have been staggered by the way wiki has promoted the TCT story while ignoring the truth.

I had this message today ....

Looks like our Wiki friend from c.22 Sep 19 on the TC-T site is getting the Daily Mail treatment today:

Anonymous Wikipedia activists promote their warped agenda | Daily Mail Online

Whatever you may think of the Daily Mail they exposed TCT and the real story.

It was the Mail on Sunday that were promoting her in the early days and for the story on rivalry between the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday I suggest a look at Private Eye magazine in the UK.

Sam Rutherford 4th Mar 2017 10:51

Hillbillyholiday has posted on this thread, and has been very correct with what he has allowed/no allowed on the Wiki page. I think he ran out of energy with the 'alternative fact' brigades constant 'improvements'!

It is interesting that they've managed to keep absolutely all the negative items off there - sometimes they stay for a while then quietly get swept away again!

Mike Flynn 4th Mar 2017 11:04

This story has so many twists and turns that it is almost becoming surreal.

Tracey's wiki entry does not contain the Daily Mail expose where the newspaper had a page lead with this picture.http://cache3-img1.pressdisplay.com/...D%3D&scale=100
No mention of this story.

The Daily Mail is hitting back at the Wiki censorship which can be clearly demonstrated on the Tracey Curtis Taylor entry.

The recent censorship of the Daily Mail shows, the website’s version of democracy does not always work perfectly in practice.
For this momentous decision was made not by a large proportion of the site’s billions of users, or even by many of its 30 million editors, but instead as the result of an online debate in which just a few dozen people participated, despite the fact that it took place over a month.
There was then an election, in which a mere 77 of them voted, with 53 endorsing a ‘ban’ on the Mail. As elections go, it’s hardly a popular landslide.
No further steps were taken to gauge the opinion of Wikipedia’s wider user base, or to establish if there was any evidence to support the contention that this paper is somehow ‘unreliable’.
The wheels of this stunt were set in motion on January 7 by ‘Hillbillyholiday’, whose attitude towards the popular Press is evident in the fact that he also uses the alias ‘Tabloid Terminator’ and who has included an image of himself burning a copy of the Mail on his profile page.
In the past, he has declared: ‘If the Daily Mail were a person, I would kick them square in the nut.’ He’s also said he ‘hates The Sun and thinks anyone who treats it as a reliable source is stark raving mad’.
Using an obscure chatroom browsed by some Wikipedia editors, he kicked things off by saying: ‘Should we prohibit the use of the Daily Mail as a source?’ He continued: ‘I envisage something just short of blacklisting.’
Blacklisting is a term which in its modern context was popularised by the Nazis, who drew up a ‘Black Book’ of 2,820 Britons, including the philosopher Bertrand Russell and Winston Churchill, who would be sent to concentration camps if Hitler won the war.
Discussion was then joined by a number of other Wikipedia editors with either Left-wing political leanings or wider anti-Press agendas. Steven Slater, a fortysomething science fiction fan from Essex, declared this newspaper a ‘fake news’ outlet.

This must be much more to encourage women who aspire to a career in aviation than anything TCT may or may not have done:

First flight around the world with an all-women crew, Air India says - BBC News

clareprop 4th Mar 2017 18:10

I tried to put unemotional, fact proven evidence on the wikipedia site for TCT but it was systematically removed. 'Tabloid' reports were judged unacceptable, images of TCT in front of presentation slides showing 'solo' flights were equally 'not evidential' and the videos at Herne Bay were 'accusatory' and 'not specific to the entry'. Old web pages from her site clearly showing a tissue of lies were 'irrelevant' as 'personal references are not allowed'.
I gave up at that point.
However, I never saw any evidence of false play by Hillybillyholiday. His main suggestion was to remove her from Wikipedia altogether as someone not deserving of an entry.

Mike Flynn 5th Mar 2017 01:11

The wiki editors often appear to be computer geeks spending most of their days online.

Reading the Daily Mail article it appears Hillybillyholiday has issues with certain sectors of the media.

There is certainly no desire from the editors to produce a true and accurate wiki page for TCT.
