Doncaster racecourse used to bring massive trade to the airport on race days; if you watched on telly you could see the visiting parked aircraft lined up on the edge of the main road but the local council seemed to 'forget' this when they sold off the land to developers.
Wonder if the racecourse owners would let you land there? After all one of the first 'air displays' was held at Donny Racecourse in October 1909.

Donny might be worth the trip.

I was talking about the 'real' Doncaster Airport not Finningley.
Did you know Finningley is built on top of coal mines and therefore susceptible to subsidence?

I used to fly into the original Doncaster on race days. Delivering a horse using a Skyvan was straightforward but the Kingair 200 (even on hi-float gear) was a nightmare - the grass surface was too rough and the aircraft got quite a shaking.

Yes Chevron, I thought a practical solution rather than an imaginary one would help. I think the fracking at Mission Springs is more likely to cause problems rather than mining subsidence which hasn’t occurred since the airport opened.:ooh:

Premier League matches are subject to being moved for TV/Sky and hardly ever get postponed, only in the most extreme cases. In most cases you'd need to buy the tickets in advance as the stadia are in the main quite small but if the club isn't doing so well availability is quite good. You hardly ever get to buy tickets at the gate any more.

Manchester City
Manchester United
Liverpool
Burnley
Everton
Huddersfield
Newcastle


I would look at their ticket availability first. Manchester City are top but still have tickets available for games. United are usually sold out due to so many tourists. Same as Liverpool. City, Everton and Newcastle are probably your best bet. As for local airfields I would just check SkyDemon.


If I were you I would factor in an evening stay after the game, then fly back the next day. But as it's the North who knows what the weather will let you do ;)
