Northern premier league stadium/nearby airfield
 

Quite fancy flying down to the North to see a premier league match, never been to a big team football game before. Anyone know of any team stadiums that have an airfield/airport reasonably close or with easy access that do not charge you like a wounded buffalo for landing fees?

Edit to add: don't care what team as long as they're in the Premier League

EGCB does a roaring trade for both United & City games - on current United form if you want Premier League then perhaps you'd better make the trip sooner rather than later :)

Of course if you want to watch a real sport then Salford Red Devils play Rugby League at t he AJBell stadium right across the road from Barton Aerodrome (or City Airport Manchester to give it its new fangled pretentious moniker!)

Barton is certainly handy for Old Trafford, and St James Park is a short Metro ride from EGNT - although charges might be of the wounded buffalo type! If coming by helo, Newcastle City Heliport is a brisk walk away.

Peterlee would be a 15 mile taxi ride to Sunderland (Stadium of Light is also accessible by Metro from EGNT)

People have told me about this football thing, I've never really had the inclination to pay vast sums of cash to see a bunch of overpaid men kick a bag of wind about.

As for the hype.......that's a other story !

Ince, north of Liverpool. £5 landing fees. Under £5 taxi to Hightown station then the train/soccerbus combined return about another fiver will get you to Anfield or Goodison.
Goodison (Everton) probably the best bet as easier to get tickets than for Liverpool games.

Northern Premier League
 

A visit to a Northern Premier League (now known as the Evostick Premier League) ground should take in one of top 6 for value for money. These include the mighty Stamford, Skelmersdale, Curzon Ashton, Nantwich, Kings Lynn and Ilkeston. Or am I missing something ?

Flew the Maule from Forfar down to Beverley, taxi into Hulls KC stadium for Man City v Hull, first big game I've been to, atmosphere was amazing. Had a night in Beverley and stopped at the White Heather hotel next to the strip at Kirkbride on the way back for Sunday roast.

Pegpilot, the words 'Northern Premier League' made me wonder too, then I realised Piperboy84 actually meant a Premier League ground in the north of England, Newcastle being furthest north (until the end of the season unless Pardew 'moves on')

It's been a while since my first big game experience. I think it's about time I go back down South and see another fixture, I understand that Huddersfield are now in the top league any thoughts on strips in the vicinity?

Thanks but looking at Northern clubs that are closer and where I can show up on the day and buy a ticket at the turnstyle, as buying in advance not knowing the weather could be a waste of money. I did it a few years back at Hull and it worked out well.

I've been to Stamford Bridge several times as a Fulham supporter and they've always been selling tickets at the box office, (Fulham likewise but you want a Premier League game don't you) unlike at the Emirates where there is always a sign saying 'Tickets for tonight's game sold out'.
Did you know Chelsea owes it existence to Fulham? After Craven Cottage was built, the developers (yes they had them in the 19th century) wanted to build houses along the riverside, so they purchased another tract of land off Fulham Broadway suitable for a stadium and offered it to Fulham. Fulham said no thanks, they were happy where they were, so the developers were left with a tract of land on which they couldn't build houses (don't know why). Instead it was decided to form another football club which they called Chelsea.

They sell delicious roast beef baps at Chelsea by the way.

Good old Fulham, now that brings back fond memories, back in 79 I was a lad of 16 on the farm in Scotland, the economy was in the toilet and the old man told me to go find work. Headed down to London and got a job as a gardener with the London Bourough of Fulham and Hammersmith at the Lillie Road recreational centre (I even had a proper donkey jacket with LBFH on the collar). My job during that long hot summer when the city was abuzz with McEnroe/Borg fever was to push a lawn mower through the streets to all the little odd parcels of city owned grass dotted round the town. The best job I ever had, on my rounds housewives would pitch me to cut their grass offering a couple of quid, a few of them even suggesting payment in kind, happy days! Cycling home to Worlds End one day I noticed a sign outside a travel agency it read “ Laker Airways: London to Los Angeles £106. I was on the plane the following week to a new life in California.

Probably accompany a mate to see Lincoln at Barnet in a couple of weekends time. Emailed him an hour ago with the query "can we visit the Southampton Arms on the way to Barnet - fancy one of their delicious roast pork baps". They keep an excellent pint too...

Course if you set your sights a bit lower, Doncaster's stadium is actually built on what was Doncaster Airport (between the railway line and the racecourse); might be a bit of grass there if you have something STOL to fly in.
