Leave the SD card in the 795 and connect the 795 via the supplied USB cable to your PC and go to flyGarmin website and login, it will tell you your available updates and manage them for you.

Garmin 795/796 Database updates

You did nothing wrong. Currently you can only update databases to the unit itself via USB, not to the SD card as with the 695/696.

I keep my Checklists, and Jeppesen Charts on the SD Card, along with the complete North American City Street Maps.

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully, they will update that soon.

Thanks

I was considering using an iPad with external GPS until I came across the Garmin 795. It looks like what I've been after. Can anyone tell me whether the terrain database for the 3D synthetic view is worldwide or is it only specific for certain regions? Also, has there been collaboration between Jeppesens and Garmin to provide approach plates for the Garmin 795? Are the approach plates georeferenced with GPS?

Hi all,

Looking at purchasing one of these units to be used in an Islander and I have a few questions;

1. Does anyone have to use the provided external GPS aerial in the cockpit?
2. Does anyone have extra VFR mapping installed? I was thinking of the 1:50,000 type maps.
3. How much actual battery life are you getting from the units?

Cheers.

Importing waypoints from SD card????

Hi,

I am a Garmin 695 owner, and Garmin wholeheartedly admitted to me that while you can back up your waypoints on an SD-card, there`s no way for the 695 to import them!??

In other words If I were to lose all my data, (which has already happened), I end up inserting the SD-card in a laptop and type the hundreds of waypoints in "manual-matic"....reading them from my computer screen.
Pretty poor, if you ask me; and quite labor intensive.

Does the 795 allow for importing waypoints and routes from a SD card please??

Cheers,

Tinkering with a 795 there isn't an option to import user waypoints, which is probably just as well as you cannot export them either, this is on the latest 3.20 software. When you plug it into a PC it appears as a removable drive, they not even available via that route.

I feel an enhancement request heading over to Garmin....

Garmin 795 advise

Hi All,

I've just been able to be lucky enough to get hold of a secondhand Garmin 795 for very cheap off an employee who was trying to sell it.

Sorry to ask a few silly questions perhaps, but I was wondering would i need to download vfr south England maps?

Furthermore I will need to download the manual from the website, but is there any advise some one can give me in regards to the GPS system

Thanks a lot

Akuji
