About time we had a fly-in.........

Ok, I suggest two to start off with. Oban for the northen lot and Redhill for the southern lot.

Who would be up for it and when???

Dates and suggestions for others here please......

DubTrub 20th Jun 2006 13:22

Wot about something not quite so far south? Preferably north of London.

Like Old Warden or Henlow or North Weald or Panshangar?

DRJAD 20th Jun 2006 13:25

Oban seems a good idea - perhaps in July or August (my preference would be for a weekday - though I realise it might not be to everyone's taste).

Presumably nothing to preclude a northerner going to the southern venue, or vice versa?

MyData 20th Jun 2006 13:35

We could put a call in to ATC at Liverpool / Manchester / Leeds / Doncaster / Humberside to be on the look out for undesirables on northerly / southerly headings to prevent any such activity! :E

How about Tatenhill as a mid-point?

Aug / Sept would be a good time.

BRL 20th Jun 2006 13:41

I am thinking more like mid-July.

A north London fly-in sounds good. Any of them mentioned by Dub there and any other suggestions welcome.

Out of the ones listed here, where would you like to go?

Please say here where you would like to go and after a week we can see where is most popular... :)

Anyone do a good BBQ in mid-July?????????

Rod1 20th Jun 2006 14:44

Tatenhill sounds good to me.

dwshimoda 20th Jun 2006 15:02

Sleap, Tatenhill, Caernarfon or Oban are all on my list as places.

Perhaps we should talk dates quite quickly, as availability on my aircraft seems to have reduced somewhat since the sun appeared :) and I guess others may have the same problem.

DubTrub 20th Jun 2006 15:10

BRL Suggested mid July.

I would suggest mid-August to give more than four weeks notice. So I therefore propose Sat 20th August (Sun 21st as the "wx alternate")

How about a good international flyout?

Waterford Airport are having a BBQ on the 15 July. An opportunity for some to learn about flight plans, GAR forms, and international flights.....it's all really easy, and great fun ;)

CDH 20th Jun 2006 19:47

I'm with DRJ-...... I suggest OBAN

At the same time we can show some support for Paul :ok:

mid weeks fine with me (if the shift rota falls right)

Whirlybird 21st Jun 2006 16:37

I instruct on helicopters at Tatenhill on Saturdays. You can all book yourselves in for trial lessons if you like. ;)

BRL 21st Jun 2006 19:26

Ok, we will go for the Sat 19th August.

Now where can we all meet up?

maggioneato 22nd Jun 2006 07:44

20th Aug is Sunday. Is it to be Sat or Sun?

DubTrub 22nd Jun 2006 07:53

My mistake...Sat 19th.

rightstuffer 22nd Jun 2006 14:59

Fly-in Venue

May I suggest Hollym - near Withernsea, Hull. Pub at the end of the strip, grass, easy to find (just follow the north bank of the Humber until it meets the sea, then land. OTR VOR is only a few miles away...:ok:

S205-18F 22nd Jun 2006 16:00

I am certainly game for Oban!

Pilotdom 22nd Jun 2006 20:11

Oban sounds good to me! Hull is too close to me!:)

Monocock 23rd Jun 2006 21:23

Hi BRL

I'm up for it.

If everyone decides when and where and i'll pop along:)

If nobody can decide i'll host it at my place.
Sadly however, non-conventional geared a/c are disallowed by my local planning authorities.....:}

DubTrub 23rd Jun 2006 22:36

Hear! Hear! Grand plan for a Southern venue. However, I seem to recall certain Cloud varieties being afforded honorary contemporary gear status, but I'll leave that with you.

I do agree with BRL in that a northern one is also a good idea...whether at the same time is up to him and sponsors.

I'll bow out now, for the common good

Can a southerner go to a Northern venu? I fancy a long XC......:) Oban is excellent, and I'd be up for it in August.......

Kolibear 25th Jun 2006 19:40

North Weald is holding its 90th Anniversary Fly-in on 20th August, if anyone is interested.

mazzy1026 26th Jun 2006 11:50

Wherever it is I am sure me and a pal can come down/up!

August 19th seems good ;)

planeenglish 26th Jun 2006 11:59

I did a search on this thread and haven't found any reference to this fly-in. It is a bit away from UK but not from me...:p

Fly-in July 1, 2 Switzerland...

Ok, it is getting confusing now.

How about this;

19th August at Oban

19th August at Tatenhill.

Who says what?

Rod1 26th Jun 2006 14:15

Sounds good to me!

Rod1

BRL 27th Jun 2006 20:10

So they will be the dates and places then in the post above.

If anyone is up at Oban, could you have a word with Paul and see if that date is ok?

Also, Whirly, if you can check out the date for your place too, that would be great.

Thanks :)

Whirlybird 27th Jun 2006 20:23

Wilco. I'll ask on Saturday if I remember. At Sheffield for rest of week.

B@gger, rota'd in that w/e- no chance of getting it off...:ugh:

Whirlybird 1st Jul 2006 20:32

Tatenhill says that's fine.

BRL 1st Jul 2006 20:51

Brilliant Whirly, just waiting to hear from Paul at Oban to see if it is ok there.

If anyone is up that way could you ask him if we can come over???

General Aviation 1st Jul 2006 21:50

<North Weald is holding its 90th Anniversary Fly-in on 20th August, if anyone is interested.>

I heard the Royal Norwegian Airforce are sending over a couple of F16's and a herc for the event.? :ok:

Whirlybird 2nd Jul 2006 07:30

Why not give Paul a quick bell. Number is in Pooleys etc.

BRL 10th Jul 2006 13:31

I have just had a chat with Paul at Oban.

Due to the work going on there and the limited space, it will not be possible to fly-in untill the main runway is opened in September.

19th August is the date, we need an aternative airfield up that way. Over to you.........

DRJAD 10th Jul 2006 14:28

19th August is a Saturday, so its unlikely I'll be able to to get an aircraft for such a trip.

However, an alternative airfield in the general vicinity of SW Scotland might be Islay. Went there recently, very welcoming. Excellent brewery on the island, too, for overnight considerations.

dublinpilot 10th Jul 2006 15:19

Islay have very restricted weekend opening hours. Very restricted.
