Aerial photographs of over 500 UK airfields

I've managed to script a little magic. Perfect for spotting that little farm strip!

Blimey, well done. :ok:

nosewheelfirst 26th Dec 2004 19:59

Bravo :ok:

Still can't see half the farmstrips even in the photos :}

FlyFreeWbe 26th Dec 2004 21:01

absolutely brilliant! been searching for milton (near peterborough) for a few days, even took a drive out there. could not find a thing! then at the risk of getting my car extremely messy by running over highly inquisitive pheasants (sp?) i came home.
knew those hanger like buildings were hiding something.. :suspect:

Bloody hell! Seriously nice bit of coding put into action there.

Where does it take the data from?

Superpilot,

Well done, but I can't help thinking that you need to get out more.....:8

One I've always had trouble finding -

tKF, I 'believe' it is connected to the ordnance survey in some respect.

Happy New Year,

Jack.

That's great. But I hope you didn't spend too long on it; fly.dsc.net has done this for months. There are about 2000 UK airfields in there, plus millions of worldwide towns, cities, aviation waypoints etc, though you only get photo links for the UK..

Superpilot 27th Dec 2004 08:42

Thanks for the praise everyone. I know various other sites including ukga.com have aerial photos but these are not available at a glance all on the same page.

The lat/long data is taken from thehanger.co.uk. I implemented a routine to convert DMS to D.DD and then place tha values of lat and long inside the URL. A bit of Excel formulary done the rest.

Great piece of work.
One HUGE omission as far as I'm concerned:rolleyes: - Haydock Park racecourse: a regular trip for me!!

down&out 27th Dec 2004 12:40

Superpilot,

I just tried to look at your site - it seems now its too popular and has been closed by yahoo for exceeding its data transfer:uhoh:

Superpilot 27th Dec 2004 12:59

Link now fixed. Thanks

maggioneato 27th Dec 2004 18:55

Brilliant Superpilot, very handy, you have missed off where I fly from, but no problem, I know where it is. :E

bar shaker 27th Dec 2004 20:37

Why is it plagued by poxy pop ups?

Superpilot 27th Dec 2004 21:14

I'm not getting a single pop up. This, even without a pop-up blocker enabled. I suspect some people have spyware / hidden advertising bots on their PC which are being triggered as a result of visiting this website.

bar shaker 28th Dec 2004 08:57

Superpilot

Thanks :O

I did a spyware scan and Yahoo's toolbar found loads of the  Some of it looked really nasty.

Now all deleted.
