Thumbs up New Manchester APP freq 119.525 mhz

Don't forget that from today the Manchester Approach frequency for light a/c has changed to 119.525 mhz

The old 119.40 freq which has served for more years than I care to recall is now the Tower freq when 24L/06R (R2) is in use

This especially affects pilots transiting the LLC or VFR arrivals into the zone

Anybody know WHY it's changed? I expect it's part of a Big Plan, but I'm just curious...

119.4 conflicts with Maypole airfield near Canterbury.
As aircraft working approach can be at a fairly high level this was causing breakthough at Maypole. By making 119.4 tower the breakthough dosen't occur as the aircraft are at low level.
119.52 was the Tower (Rwy 2) Freq, so it is a straight swop.

Tnx for the info re. Maypole. Surely there must be more to it than this! I can't believe that a 550 meter farm field appears to have more clout than M/cr! I guess there must be several other fields using 119.4 and having similar problems... Anyway it answers the question.

Does anyone know for how long 119.4 has been the Manch approach frequency? I suspect it has been so for a very long time indeed.

Not sure how long 119.4 has been in use as Appr, as long as I can remember.

Just had a search around and found this thread which explains that Approach was being used outside it's DOC :
