Martin, have you tried the CAA inspectorate people as they may help,or their archives; another would be the Air Historical Branch 0208-838-7817, the Public Record Office, or the Ordnance Survey.
Sounds as though it could be in Canada,possibly as well, or even places in the Falklands......even on a fine day!

You don't mean Sound of Sleat, between Skye and the mainland? Probably sheltered enough to use for seaplanes, although I have no specific information of it ever being used for that purpose.

Hi
A couple of people have mentioned The Sound Of Sleat, off The Isle Of Skye, which is a sheltered area.
I presume what I am looking for was used WW2 as it came from a PRO document Air1/616/15
The only other possibility is off the coast of Ireland.
