GA airfields Sheffield area?

Hi,
I'm wondering what GA airfields are in operation around Sheffield?

Thanks,
Woodey

For a licensed GA field the only real option is Netherthorpe 10 miles south east. Grass runways and short (450 metres) . Coal Aston is a private strip to the south of the city - just over 700 metres but PPR only and prone to waterlogging I believe.

The obvious ones are Neatherthorpe and Gamston. Neatherthorpe is situated on the Sheffield side of Worksop, and Gamston is just south of Retford.

What's wrong with Sheffield Airport - the Ministry are supposed to be there today giving it the OK for single engine aeroplanes - about time too. This may be it's survival.

I also heard single eng. planes will be allowed into Sheffield very soon. I don't think it's just a rumour.

If they do allow SEP aircraft I will be surprised. I live 1nm from threshold of runway 28 and aint heard jack !!!!! Now, I don't expect to hear from official sources, it's those NIMBY mothers who would crow most about something like that.

As yet heard nothing.
