Post The de Havilland Moth Club Vintage Air Tour

The de Havilland Moth Club is pleased to announce on the centennial of powered flight a new initiative.

Come and take part in our Vintage Air Tour 27th 28th 29th June 2003.

A tour open to specifically to de Havilland Moths of all types (to whom preference will be given) and to other de Havilland aircraft such as Chipmunks. Classic aircraft with Gipsy Major engines will also be welcome. The tour will commence in Yorkshire and proceed south stopping overnight at Rochester, then along the South Coast, spending Saturday night at Shoreham, encompassing many classic English grass airfields on the way. The tour can be joined and left at any point, though obviously we would like as many aircraft as possible to complete the whole route.

Route.
The tour will start at the South Yorkshire airfield of Sherburn-in-Elmet on the morning of Friday 27th June. From Sherburn’ we will visit Fenland for morning coffee, then Sywell for lunch followed by Andrewsfield for afternoon tea. We will end the day at Rochester with a BBQ on the airfield and night stop. The Saturday will commence at Rochester, visiting Lashenden (Headcorn) for morning coffee, then West and across the Solent to take lunch on the Isle of Wight. From Sandown we will cross the water again to Shoreham for the second night stop. Sunday morning we will fly to Old Sarum for their Vintage Rally and morning coffee thence onto Compton Abbas for lunch. After lunch we will fly onto Kemble for afternoon tea and disperse home, or perhaps continue your own rally from there.

Organisation.
The organisers will provide details of each airfield and any special joining procedures. Landing fees are the responsibility of the individual though discounts are being negotiated and details will be published prior to the event. A list of Hotels and B&Bs will be available for both of the night stops. Bookings and payments will be the responsibility of the participants. Camping should be available at both night stop sites.

Reservations.
It is expected that a significant number of aircraft will take part; places will however be limited and those registering first will be given preference.
Please send your details;
name, address, type of aircraft and how much of the route you wish to participate in, together with a registration fee of £10 (non refundable, unless the event is cancelled) to: Ron Gammons, C/O Brown & Gammons, 18 High Street, Baldock, Herts, SG7 6AS Cheques and postal orders should be made payable to The de Havilland Moth Club. Payment may be by credit card (with a charge of 4% additional). Please include a signed authorisation. Reservations open immediately and will be acknowledged. Further details will be despatched when available in 2003 and placed on the club’s Web site. Route and airfield coordinators: Scott Butler, Joe Wright
Administration: Ron & Valery Gammons
