FYI,
There is some work in progress at Duxford which may impact our planned flyin...
The (hard) runway is being resurfaced but this is expected, weather permitting, to be complete by end of March...
If I know it is complete before, say, 4th April I will post here again with that news.
If I forget , or if it isn't completed until 0800 on the 5th April I suggest you ring Duxford to check.
So not only do we want good weather on the 5th, we really need good weather from now until the 5th.

Slipped the surly bonds at the weekend and being now in possession of the required stamp in my logbook, hope that I'll be able to make it to my 3rd Pprune fly-in.
If I can get something booked at this late-ish stage, it'll be one of those (not quite so new now, but still very nice) 172's that you may remember from Popham and Sywell.
Duxford's a real TAP's paradise, and it's been a few years, so how could I miss it (well I might, but that'll be my own fault for not getting it sorted sooner).

More news from Duxford...
PPR - I will fax the list from the Flyin Booking Page to Duxford and that will do as PPR. (I will fax it to Duxford on the Friday evening)
If you're not on there, you'll need to ring for PPR.
If you don't know the aircraft reg you'll be in (some are G???? on the list) you'll need to update the page or ring for PPR when you know.
All pilots will still need to book in/out as normal.
Here's the link again, incase you want to update anything

Duxford Special Events:
While the PPRUNE fly-in on 5th April is not oficially a 'special event' (this refers to airshows at Duxford), there is a very useful AIP document (I've got it on CDROM but I'm sure its on the CAA website) called UKAIP 10/2002 or yellow 72.
It gives useful tips on approaching Duxford, including how to avoid Stansted and how to avoid Fowlmere which is close by.
Also tips on what to do in case of radio failure etc.
I fly-in two or three times a year to Duxford airshows, and with loads of A/c all trying to get in at once they usually have pre- arranged slot times.
Presumably Duxford don't see the need for slot times on 5th April but I would commend you all (especially first timers into Duxford) to study AIP yellow 72 (10/2002) as it also gives details of no-fly areas to avoid overflying local villagea as well as entry and exit gates to the airfield.
I'd hate to think of 24 SELs buzzing round over local villages and inflaming the local populace against G.A..
Just my twopence worth.
Safe flying and CYA there on 5th.

E)RWY 06/24 ASPHALT CLOSED DUE WIP
Just pulled this from the AIS website. It says is should be finished 5 days before we descend, but might be worth checking out the progress a few days before?

I don't know if I'm going or not, or in what aircraft. If in a helicopter, I should have a spare seat (cost sharing?) from Wolverhampton. But I really need the f/w hours, so if anyone, with or without an aircraft already, would like to come with me from Sleap, Welshpool, Liverpool, WBA, or similar, please let me know - I could do with a co-pilot as I'm a bit out of practice on these plank thinkies. Send me a pm if you might be interested in either of the above.

33 aircraft (@ 15/3/03)
140cherokee
Most people seem to be planning to arrive about 10 ish, so I suspect we'll meet in an orderly queue at the pay-point
Failing that, we suggested the USAF Museum around noon-ish.

33 aircraft! Holy cr*p! all arriving at 10.00.
I pity the poor ATCers with no slot-times.
Keep a seriously good lookout chaps: I can remember one Duxford airshow fly-in when even with slot times two a/c were lined up on finals at the same time to opposite ends of the runway.
Also: is the work on the main runway going to be finished?
Looking forward to it

"is the work on the main runway going to be finished?"
If the first one to land seems to be using full power and not taxiing very quickly, we have to assume the tar ain't dry
Hope to know about this soon... As I said B4, if we can maintain good weather from now until then they should get it finished...

Why do it if it's not fun?

Same goes for me - if anyone wants to meet during the day PM for my mobile number, or of course catch me around a large silver Yak-52 as I will probably spend quite a bit of the day in the air.
FFF, AB, tKF - I have each of you mentally logged as requiring a ride. Mike S is in the back seat on the inbound and outbound legs.
