Ppl flying in usa on caa license ?
I originally gained my PPL on a JAR License in USA a couple of decades ago. It has since been converted to EASA and now CAA. Im now confused as to how I go about flying on it in USA. Iv'e heard theres a few hoops to jump through . Can anyone shed some light ?
EDIT :
OK so I think iv'e got this right. I found most of the info here - https://www.faa.gov/licenses_certifi...e_verification
I have opened an FAA online account with their IACRA portal here - https://iacra.faa.gov/IACRA/default.aspx
After registering I clicked on the link that requests Verification of Authenticity of Foreign License and Medical Certification. They prefer that you do this on the portal . You can download the form and post it but the portal takes several weeks to process and postal applications may well take longer.
The FAA side of things is all free. However you have to make an application to the CAA to release your records to the FAA and the CAA charge at todays rate Oct 2023 £51.00
That application needs to be done separately. The link for this can be found here. https://www.caa.co.uk/commercial-ind...-icao-licence/
So I answered my own question so there's no guarantee iv'e got it right until I see the end result but hopefully someone will put me straight if iv'e gone down the wrong admin rabbit hole.

You may apply for a foreign-based US private.
First, the UK licence and medical need verifying. Complete instructions are here, https://www.faa.gov/licenses_certifi...e_verification
Once the verification has been done, you may apply for the US pilot certificate with a DPE (fees vary) or at a FSDO (free).
Before exercising PIC privileges you’ll need to do a flight review with a US instructor. You may this in the UK before the above steps if you wish.
