Nominees for UK GA idiots of the year 2020?

Noticed this alleged incident on Yahoo, if it proves true G-BUDR and G-INYS have got my vote. Wondering if the CAA will be voting for them?

It’s just a video search result. The permissions will be it asking you to run cookies most likely.

In a normal year this wouldn't even come close to "idiot of the year" for me but I guess we've spent a lot of it grounded so perhaps we don't have a whole lot to pick from?

I think 2 nominees spring to mind:

1. The glider pilots who descended into IMC before seeing terra firma within the cloud

2. The young chap who tried to execute a Go Around and ended up eating hangar

Both nominees survived their experiences and therefore are available in person to collect their awards, as long as COVID-19 regulations apply of course 🧐

Why pick on anybody?.
Back to " I'm perfect and can say WTF I like on an Internet forum"
As a matter of interest, have the so called perpetrators been proved to have committed an offence or are we just being judge, jury and executioners?

The evidence is right in front of you...and the CAA. See their comments.

There was no way he was 500 foot from the cameraman.

If the Authority see fit to comment, in a National Newspaper, then so can we in a private pilots forum.

Comment, yes, but the op is making a judgement.
And if you are naive enough to think this is a private forum, God help us all

What evidence? A cameraphone that may or may not be in Zoom mode.
The CAA's comments that they will be looking into it?
500ft is less than 2 football pitches. No height restriction, apart from the 5 and which one did they transgress?
Evidence, not assumption please.
Always some clueless experts spoiling for a hanging.
If and I say if, they are deemed by the authorities to be guilty, so be it, but armchair Judge advocating Idiot of the year may well look in a mirror, should there be no prosecution.

The act of being an idiot is not covered by the ANO so nomination for any such award is not related to pursuing a prosecution,.

As for a minimum height rule and endangering flight, I seem to recall from my Air Law lectures that there is legislation in place to deter both, so its for CAA to determine if any offence has apparently been committed and whether it is in the public interest to pursue a prosecution.

"The young chap who tried to execute a Go Around and ended up eating hangar"
A solo student opened the throttle too fast and too soon, without weight on wheels. Then froze. Not an idiot. A human.
My nomination is the guy who posted a search result on a forum, thinking it was a video link. And who still uses Yahoo for his search engine.

If they were closer than 500ft to persons or a structure, they have committed an offence. Now hands up, who has never committed a breach of the law, doesn't matter how trivial. My hands are down.

What the PIC should have elected to do was, go out to the middle of the estuary or miles from anywhere. It seems he/she didn't so they must face the consequences.

That'd put UK GA in a good light if that's the worst we've seen considering as that happened in New Zealand

My nomination is for the bloke who took his PC12 to RAF Valley when they were a) in lockdown and b) closed for runway maintenance.
It wasn't just a momentary lapse of concentration or poor judgement on the spur of the moment but something planned when he woke up in the morning.
I'd have thought that by the time you've got sufficient acumen to be able to afford and learn how to fly a complex aircraft, you'd also be imbued with the common sense to operate it properly - clearly not!

TheOddOne, one thing to remember of those with lots of dosh is that more often than not it comes with a sense of entitlement attached, rules are for the little people.

Can I nominate myself?
My own numpty of the year award occured flying from Valley.
Back in '79 I got a back seat ride in a Hawk for a 'close formation' trip with 2 other Hawks; it was only when we got airborne I realised I'd LEFT MY BLOODY CAMERA IN MY CAR!!

… as well as stating G-BUBR was one of the perpetrators, which would be impossible, as that registration is allocated to a hot air balloon...… Perhaps it will get them into hot water; or possibly its all hot air?

Corrected, it was G-BUDR, a Denny Kitfox.

Absolutely bizarre, but I came on here looking for advise on a Kitfox 3, as -G-BUDR is currently for sale on AFORS! Then I see that video. Licence gone?
