Closest airstrip to Betws y Coed?

I've found Druid, 500m grass - but I'm going to be heavy and the 500m aren't straight either...

So, anyone know other strips in the area?

Thanks, Sam.

Bet most people can't even pronounce Betws - y - Coed, or nearby Dolwyddelan

I expect most Welsh speakers would do a double-take at Dolwyllelan - Dolwyddelan would be much easier. Are you planning to do the 3 peaks challenge by air?

abgd,

Give my friend chevvron a break. He lives east of Offa's Dyke!

If he was going to venture into the mountains, he would need to get his tongue round Carnedd Llewellyn and Carnedd Daffydd!

PS My spell checker definitely doesn't know about Welsh mountains!

I always feel self-conscious about my inability to read Scottish road signs (though I'm fairly sure that if I could, I could pronounce the names). So Chevvron, please accept my apologies.

A few years ago we were taking a train ride with my then 2 year old, and delighting in his mastery of long words and ability to say pretty much anything he wanted.

Can you say 'Tyrannosaurus Rex?'
Tywanosawus Wex!

Can you say 'Pistachio nuts?'
Stipachio nuts!

Can you say 'Railway station?'
Wailway Stayshun!

Can you say 'Antidisestablishmentarianism?'
Antidisstablishmntism.

Can you say 'Machynlleth?'
Yes

Well done abgd; I wondered who'd spot my deliberate mistake first! As for pronunciation, in my younger days over 60 years ago we often travelled on a 'debble ducker' bus.
Many years ago I had a schoolteacher who was a volunteer on the Ffestiniog (have I got that right?) Railway in his spare time and he used to teach us these Welsh names. He was actually from Cornwall; are there any similarities between Cornish and Welsh?

Grims Ditch was close by where I was brought up though and I had a great aunt who lived in Akeman Street.(Tring, right opposite the museum.)

You knew you'd been at RAF Valley for too long when you could pronounce Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch correctly...

Yes, along with Breton, they are in the Brythonic language group. Many years ago, when traveling on Brittany Ferries, I noticed a distinct “welshness” to the Breton parts of the tri-lingual signs.

Many years ago the Welsh speaking parents of a friend went to France on vacation, did not speak French but found that they got along well with the Breton speakers using Welsh! And of course Cornish was the same language, but I doubt that it is in use now.

Many, many years ago when I was into competitive cycling, we Crewe riders would start the season's training with an out and home bash to what we used to call Betsy Coed. My mother's Welsh speaking friend tried to correct me by saying that it is pronounced "Betoos"!

Sam, are you still in the hold, while your peers discuss Welsh?

on a serious note, if you are new to the area please be careful over Snowdonia, the downdraughts can be pretty dangerous around there.

While linguistical subtleties were vividly discussed (It wasn't easy to keep silent, but these Gaelic languages are really beyond my skills, so I did manage to shut up), Sam has perhaps found https://forums.flyer.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=75192

Thank you, I hadn't - though doesn't appear to offer much more than this thread!

On a diagonal read I found no more either, Sam. Which might perhaps be an indication there really is no more to be found... Enjoy Celtic grammar, meanwhile!

This place is a great place to land a helicopter.

That mountain there could be a bit awkward on cloudy days too.
