Winglit - I am a Brit too with an PA28-181.

You are in the Dom Rep - question, where do you get your insurance?

The US insurers wont cover with a non-US address, heard a few worrying things about the guys on Nevis (probably unfounded) - bought direct with underwriters at Lloyds - on their list of airplanes Boeings, Airbusses and my PA28

Yes, very expensive too - but on the upside an agreed no haggle hull value in the case of a total loss.

Hi Ebbie, my aircraft is registered with Aircraft Guaranty, a US trust company based in Texas. I declare Kissimee as US base but also declare that I have a property in the Dom Rep which I spend more time in than the US. I'm insured with a company called Global Aerospace Inc, through a broker called Leading Edge Insurance Agency. Last renewal was $900 for the year. With a Caribbean clause covering all the islands for unlimited time.

Last hurricane season I had to evacuate and hangar my aircraft for hurricanes irma and Maria. They paid me back all the evacuation fees without quibble.

Hello

I sent you a PM message.

Rather fascinated by the reference to them paying for evacuation fees for the chicken run out of the way of a hurricane.

My insurance deals with such risk by upping my excess to $7,000 - my prior insurance simply said "no cover for a named storm" - I am liking the idea of your insurer - I have written to them will be interesting to see what they say.

Agreed, a very 'forward-thinking' insurer.
