Fly in the UK with Spanish issued PPL license

Hi, new joiner here! nice forum.

I've recently finished my PPL course in Spain, at the end of the exam the examiner mentioned i had 2 options:

Either have the Spanish license issued as a Spanish speaker, or do the English proficiency exam to have it issued in English in order to fly in the UK.

I originally was told this license would enable me to fly all across Europe including England so this was a surprise.

I've moved to Europe, UK about 2 years ago to work, I'm originally from Argentina (Spanish speaker). I'm not fully familiar with the regulations here in Europe.

The only reason I've done the PPL in Spain was cost and the Spanish language, but i reside and work in the UK and i plan to fly here.

Since then ive come back to UK and done the TEA exam in FTA, and passed with a 5 (1-6), just waiting for the paperwork.

Its still not clear to me if this would be enough. I have asked FTA to send the paperwork to my flight school in Spain.

Would i also need an R/T license to fly in the UK? meaning ill have to do another exam? I guess the Spanish license has an R/T license with it, but not sure if that is sufficient to fly in the UK.

Would i be able to fly in other country's like France and Germany with this TEA exam?

I was already an ICAO PPL in Argentina, but i could not convalidate so decided to redo the PPL license, i recon i have about 100 hours between both licenses. My plan is to fly in Denham Aerodrome. Looks like the best option from were i live in London and the pricing is good. Ill build some hours there and then probably move to an aircraft share.

thanks for the advice!

Article 11 of EU regulation 216/2008 is quite clear:
Recognition of certificates
1. Member States shall, without further technical requirements or evaluation, recognise certificates issued in accordance with this Regulation. When the original recognition is for a particular purpose or purposes, any subsequent recognition shall cover only the same purpose or purposes.
You licence will include your English Proficiency level 5 and that is all you need to fly in the UK.

English Language Proficiency

Is your level 5 in 'Aviation English' and from Flying Time Aviation? I ask because the organisation must be approved to issue a certificate that will be accepted for a pilots licence by the state issuing the licence. Unless the Spanish Authorities recognise "FTA" they may not accept their certificate. Do you have a UK or Spanish EASA Class 1 or 2 medical certificate. Is the Flight Examiner who conducted your PPL skill test approved by Spain and the UK CAA, a number of Spanish Examiners are.

If your pilots licence is issued in Spain with an English Proficiency level 5 and a spanish Class 1 or 2 medical cert. then your licence will be valid throughout the world.

You can only hold or be issued with an EASA licence by the EASA state that also issued your medical cert.

If your Spanish Flight Examiner is approved by the UK CAA, your medical is a UK issue and your language certificate recognised by the CAA you could have a UK EASA PPL issued. Your EASA flight training in Spain is recognised throughout EASA land.

You do not need a UK FRTOL for an EASA pilot licence because it is now integral.

Hi , FTA is a flightschool that acts as an intermediary with the MAYFLOWER COLLEGE, an English school CAA approved

I have a Spanish class 2 certificate

Im assuming my flight examiner is not uk certified, that is the reason of this problem but he did not recognised the fact.

EASA PPL application

It would seem best to apply for a Spanish PPL. If the Spanish will accept the Mayflower level 5 endorsement all the better, if not have the Spanish licence issued without it. You will not be able to use the Spanish licence outside of Spain without a minimum of English Proficiency level 4 endorsed.

If necessary transfer your Spanish EASA PPL and medical to the UK and use the approved Mayflower endorsement to include your level 5 in the UK licence. You may be required to undertake the UK FRTOL skill test to have the RT privileges included within your UK issued EASA licence.

Living in the UK, at any time after all this any UK RT or Flight examiner, in the future, can assess you as level 6.

Best wishes
