Hotel with airstrip/large field in Kent
Hotel with airstrip/large field in Kent
I'm looking for a hotel at which we can land small planes - anyone any ideas? Need 400m or so of vaguely flat grass.
Not nearby, not in the vicinity - AT! For now, just looking for options with physical space - I can then see if the hotel/farmer/owner is amenable to the idea (or not) later!
Big ask? Yup, but not impossible I think.
Thanks, Sam.

Holiday Inn Rochester - Chatham Hotel | Best Price Guaranteed
Probably your only option if it has to be so close.

Hi CC,
Thanks for the reply but I'm not looking for close - close is easy! I'm looking for AT! IE you take luggage out of plane and carry it to reception and then to your room (no transport and no yomping!). Even better if it's possible to taxi the plane to the hotel entrance after landing!

I'm familiar with many of the strips in Kent and cannot think of anything else. If you need an hotel, you won't get any closer than that. You would have few problems if you can modify the need for such luxury and could consider camping.
I can do you one in Surrey - Frensham Ponds Hotel with Frensham airstrip (about 800m long) next door.
Hotel has a helipad too.

Hey Sam,
I don't think that the fair county of Kent has anything to match the Burj-Al-Arab just yet mate,,.
And if a gal like Ch.Ch doesn't know any place , then what hope is there for the rest of us.
Actually , how about the old Tiger Club hut at Headcorn...........[]

Rochester is the best and closest
As a resident I can vouch that the hotel is absolutely adjacent to the aircraft parking area. If you park in the eastern park, it can't be more than 200 yards to wheel your baggage to reception (as did the Dutch cocaine smuggler who was convicted recently ).
You'd need to walk back from there to tower for fees etc., but it's still a very short stroll.
And the natives are friendly. If you needed any form of help, including transport, worth sending a PM. (Can't offer a Rolls like the Chateau la Chassagne, sorry......).

The only other place I can think of is Eastwell Manor, which has a helipad. There's no way you'd get an aeroplane in and out again, though. You'd probably have to walk 100 yds too!
Wallett's Court also, until recently, but its owners have retired from the business.
Abbeville is the next nearest.

Wouldn't it be infuriating to be staying at a lovely remote, picturesque hotel, and be woken up at 8am by some idiot starting his engine(s), and taxiing his turboprop to the entrance of the hotel?
Even if you're having breakfast, do you really want to have a plane turn up right outside the dining room? (and when it taxis out - pushes all the freshly cut grass into the dining room through the open windows?
What's wrong with having a golf cart picking you up from the strip and taking you as well as your luggage (passengers included) to the hotel a few hundred yards away?

Thank you for all the answers. I'll keep looking.
For Alex90, this is the same issue for a helicopter - and easily solved by not leaving at 0800! I suspect most guests would be taking photos and smiling at plane parked outside reception getting ready to leave at 1030. Hadn't considered the grass issue, mind. :-)

There was one in Kent, but I can't find... I looked at going there a few years ago.
Not in Kent but:
Self-catering holiday cottages with hot tubs in Suffolk Gladwin's Farm is right next to Nayland airfield (2min walk perhaps?)
Abalone Bed and Breakfast Highlands: Accommodation in rural location near Inverness Abalone BnB is right on there - but I think they target microlights more than light aircraft.
