Current in Instrument Flying?

The thread running currently on Instrument flying is ancient history! More than four pages date back seven years.

New instruments, new rules, new aircraft have appeared since then. Are we any safer now flying IFR?

I'd say definitely yes, with periphreal kit like affordable VFR GPS and IPads providing situational awareness, weather and even geo-referenced approach plates displayed on large easy to read screens as a good back up information source to confirm what your six pack and VOR/ILS/GS indicator is telling you. And if you have the misfortune of going partial panel they could make the difference in the outcome of the flight.

GPS makes it much easier now ... and I would say will soon make it nearly as easy as VFR with google glass type display etc.

Present day equipment (e.g. Garmin G500, Dynon Skyview, etc) has improved safety e.g. auto-pilots, traffic alert, ADS-B, etc.
