Help! GarminAera updating
Before I go completely round the bend, can someone remind me how to update the data base in a Gramin Aera 500?
I searched the web and found a "webupdater" which suggested it would bring my Aera 500 up to V5.8 only it doesn't tell me how to set the Aera up. There are apparently 2 usb ports on the device, one is on the automotive mount which clips to the back of the device, the other is under the battery cover of the device. Neither seems to be working. The mount one, when connected puts a message about "wrong port" on the screen, the other causes the machine to say "close battery door" and seems to switch the device off intermittently, cycling with the message. Neither case lets the webupdater detect the device. It is several years since I last updated my database and I no longer have the computer I used to do it. I don't remember what PC software I used or the procedure to do it.
I have just spent nearly an hour reinstalling the Airspace Aware updater to put new data into the unit. Why does this always play up? It never just does the job when needed. Every time is a struggle and then suddenly it works.
