Question for gizmo smarty pants

So bimbling along in the UK for the first time in the U.K. with my Garmin 660 gps Bluetoothed to the Garmin GDL 39 set up and a traffic target popped up giving me the location and tail number , I was not receiving ADSB info ( I guess that's not available in the U.K.) so how the hell was I getting traffic targets on screen ?

You could have come across one of the increasing number of ADS -B outputting aircraft

That's correct. Any aircraft with ADSB-out will be received directly by the GDL 39.

The ground up-link in the US additionally provides other Mode C traffic and weather.

I did try out my GDL-39 in the UK recently, but didn't see any reporting traffic.

I'm sure it will be useful as more aircraft are set up for ADSB_out.
