Small Plane Crashes Into Crowd @ SanDimas,CA

CNN (initial) reports: A small plane has crashed into a crowd at Puddingstone Reservior near San Dimas, CA. Further detaqils coming in.

Puddingstone Reservior is about 1 hour drive from LAX. Nearest other large city is Ontario, CA.

Puddingstone a water reservior also used for boating/beach/fishing recreation would be highly occupied on this date 4 July an American Holiday.

Small Plane Crashes Into L.A. Crowd

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A small airplane crashed into a Fourth of July crowd at a suburban park, injuring six people, authorities said.

Two of the injured were in serious condition after the crash at Bonelli Park, said Capt. Brian Jordan, of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Puddingstone Reservior (Bonelli Park) is on the departure end of Brackett Field a Tower Controlled airport to the east (runway is east/west).

Pilot reported difficulties on the climb out and made a mayday call. 2 POB one now reported dead.

6 critically injured including 2 children.

Type reported as Cessna 310.

CNN now report 6 critical injuries two of which are children.

Also: plane did crash immediately after T/O. Two pax. One of the occupants a fatality. Twin-engine. Failed to gain altitude, intially impacted water then skipped onto shoreline.

IF the type reported is a CE310, cliimb performance on one is NOT all that spectacular when heavy...and the lake would be full of holiday folks...very sad indeed.

Rumor- someone heard this happened several days earlier?

Someone said that they had heard that a strikingly similar accident happened a few days earlier? Can anyone verify? I realize that the media had this as breaking news, but we know they never make mistakes…..?

I did my FAA high performance endorsment at Brackett and climbing out over Puddingstone was always slightly concerning, not leat because there are two parallel runways and often you'd have have company to the left or right.

And to add to the fun, there was a major freeway just the other side of the resevoir.

When you fly around over the LA basin in a single and look for suitable forced landing areas, then you begin to realise why all the locals fly as high as they can.
