CAP 804 suspended

It seems not even the CAA can keep up with the ever changing EASA regulations as they have suspended CAP 804 which is now reference only. Might be a perfect time to get your licence whilst no one has a clue what the rules are - or perhaps the worst possible time as the answer to any question will either take three times longer or be answered with "no".

CAP 804: Flight Crew Licensing

CAP 804 covered UK requirements for pilot licensing and a guide to the new European Flight Crew Licensing requirements to April 2015. This edition remains available for reference only.

A new and restructured Air Navigation Order came into force on 25 August 2016. Article references have completely changed and new EASA regulations have been developed since CAP 804 was last issued. In the light of these significant changes the need for a restructured and updated version of CAP 804 that reflects current UK law and EU regulations is currently being reviewed.

You may find much of the guidance that you need on the Licences and other approvals pages of the CAA website: Licences and other approvals | UK Civil Aviation Authority

More information on the revised Air Navigation Order 2016 is available here: The revised Air Navigation Order.

The new Air Navigation Order 2016 is available electronically: The Air Navigation Order 2016

Current EASA regulations regulations are available online here: Regulations | EASA

'Easy Access' Rules for pilot licensing are also available from EASA: Easy Access Rules for Part-FCL - Part-ARA - Part-ORA

Status:Cancelled on 24 August 2016
Review Comment:Available for reference only
Version:2015/01 Reference only
Date April 2015

I've always thought LASORS/CAP804 must have been a huge resource drain and Is it really needed?

Does every EASA member state come up with something similar? Is there one in German, Spanish, Italian?

And what about country with small aviation departments such as Malta for them it really can't be worth it.

Let it go I say and just read the actual regulation.

Currently we answer quite a few questions from AOPA members through referring to the excellent CAP804...

For some inexcusable reason, it wasn't updated to take into account the latest changes both to the Aircrew Regulation and ANO2016. It should be an on-line live document, updated with each and every regulatory change at the time it takes effect.

As the CAA has cut the number of its staff to the bone, they may well now find more and more queries being directed to them (not to fclweb, but to the top level of the CAA!) if they don't sort out CAP804...or LASORS 2017...or even CAP53 / 54.

Their choice.

CAP 804 which is now reference only
Surely, that is all it has ever been, Reference?
It is not an authoritative document re EASA directives, but is still largely correct with regard to National Licences and Licence Conversions.

Unfortunately, the editor moved to another job and with him went all the knowledge!

The CAA no longer regards knowledge as a essential comodity.
