See you all on the other side

Well, that's all the Flyer web site seems to be saying at the moment, so it must mean here, so where is everybody?

Mr Seager is allegedly updating the software this weekend.

I'm just back from the village am-dram, and will now retreat to the lounge with a well aged cheese and drop of cask strength whisky.

I have a look over there once in a while and Mr Seager's inputs seem to me to be some of the more measured. One or two of the resident twats are still there, all the interesting guys have gone as far as I can tell from my infrequent visits, and the replacements don't seem to be half as much fun!

The title is somewhat ambiguous in that "the other side" has a distinct meaning to a lot off members from both forums.

The original post could, perhaps, have been worded better as the new look website and forum is now up and running although a little bedraggled until it settles in.

This is the "other side."
The other side is "this side."

I don't think Gertrude could have worded it any better having read....

I'm afraid that I suspect that the new look - 95% of the screen wasted on white space, and having to scroll down about three screenfuls before reaching any actual content, and then only being able to see about three posts before even more vertical scrolling - is deliberate. This seems to be the fashion these days for reasons which I don't think anyone has ever tried to explain to me.

It is indeed the fashion these days. It gives website designers something to do I suppose. I believe it is purported to make the website "tablet and mobile device friendly"

Sadly that's true

I saw a mention that the current 'wisdom' for developers is "Mobile first" ie design for the phone or tablet, as fewer of us are using desktops or laptops.

Except I find these newer sites harder to use on a mobile device than most older ones...

Perhaps my eyesight is better than average or something but I don't need things to be huge to see them on the phone, and prefer small that I can zoom in when needed rather than it hiding information or spacing it out so I have to keep dragging the page around etc...

just had a look at the flyer website and yes there is a lot of white space but that's there for the ability to sell ad space, use a good ad blocker and a lot of that space will disappear.

I have to say I like the forum template it's modern rather than this place which is hopless out of date, I dont mind the yellow but this place needs a refresh.

They're still tweaking the Flyer forum.
Every day in every way it's getting better and better.....

Seems to be change for the sake of change, with blocky dumbed down interface, the latest fashion, never mind that it's carp!

I can understand the need for hardware upgrades, but if the interface works, why redesign it and then have to modify it because it's unusable?

I never had any problem with this or flyer forum on PC or tablet ...please don't mess with this one because some clown decides "it's out of date".....it's clear, it's legible, it works,...just like Flyer's used to!

I can't recall agreeing with Gertrude before but in this case he's spot on.

I'm not a member on the forum being discussed, but I've certainly seen this trait elsewhere.

In fact in the worst cases, using a tablet in landscape view, it's possible to have no actual post content on the the screen at all, a single line post just off the top of the screen, the next just below the bottom, and the left side full of avatars, post and thanks counts, and (we don't need no stinking) badges.

My opinion would be not everyone wants or needs to have unlimited mobile data, so leave out the extraneous stuff.

This is place is fine, don't mess, as already said.

One of the mean incentives, perhaps even the prime one, must surely be to increase revenues from paid publicity?
