What do you like about PPRuNe?

For a start, I really appreciate the layout and format....easy to read, easy to find subjects, great to hear from folks on the far side of the world - mostly Englishspeaking...but not all...and most of whom are equally obsessed with flying. Sort of like a common religion, isn't it?

Old joke. How can you tell if somebody is a pilot? Answer: he'll tell you!

Its good to have newbies here, sharing their pleasure and pain in learning to defy gravity. Its good to have the old farts, remembering times long ago. And the advice, all free, some of it good advice. Thanks to all who keep it going.

I (like I would imagine many others) don't post very often. I spend most of my time just reading the threads and enjoying the quips and insights into flying.

I'm still learning, having just done my first solo, and will read PPRuNe to supplement my understanding. The little things that they don't really teach you about.

So that's me. :-)

Learning stuff that I never did know and reading intelligent explanations of stuff that I thought I did know.

Having a good chuckle as I read stuff.

Some is witty repartee from those who know, some is the pontifications of chairborne experts (who mostly don't), and some is the reaction of the former to the latter.

The intelligent threads, definitely the humour, banter, droll one-liners. the fascinating depth of knowledge about all sorts of subjects.
Aviation and sailing tend to attract a more intelligent sort of person.
Some specialised motoring forums do also, then you get the ones like Barry Boys, who, like an accident, have a macabre fascination.

Oh, did i mention the way thread-drift is indulged and as a result, many fascinating tangents emerge?
All in all, the forum is entertaining (apart from R&N-I'm banned!)
light moderation is exemplified in the Aussie and asia sub forums, where they get a bit personal with the slagging-off, but it all comes right in the end.

Maybe its my rebellious streak But I do like to challenge conventional thinking
That does not mean that conventional thinking is wrong but should be discussed as often in aviation nothing changes fast and often we are ingrained into thinking one way.

it has always been done that way so always should is a major theme in aviation

One word of caution never take anything said in these forums as being right as we all make mistakes or get it wrong ! experts and Armchair pilots alike.

then the threads turn into ego bashing or ego protecting One thing for sure there are many egos in aviation and a lot of willy waving
