Can GA fly in to RIAT?

Hi All,

I am pretty sure we can't fly into Fairford as private pilots for RIAT but I can't find anywhere saying so definitively. They haven't responded to my question.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for nearby airfield to fly into?

Cheers
Matt

A few years back we had an invitation to fly in as they wanted GA to turn up. But with a landing fee of around £250 and we'd still have to pay for the admission, we thought better of it.

Shame Kemble isn't doing its June display any more. Every bit as good as RIAT at an affordable cost, so I guess they lost shedloads on the deal.

Alternatives might be Oaksey Park or Kemble or even Charlton Park, if it is available

No, is the answer. Too late.

Even if you could, you would need £7,500,000 insurance.

If you have something very interesting, you might ask for next year.

If you do fly into Kemble or Oaksey Park, you obviously will need transport from there. Might as well drive anyway.

Even as a RIAT volunteer its a nightmare - as others have said unless you are an exhibiting aircraft no chance alas!

I have seen some twin piper some years ago there carrying visitors. They were parked right next to the crowds. Seem to remember civil helicopters as well back then.

We're going to Riat this year, mainly because the excellent Waddington show has been cancelled due to their runway being dug up. At Waddington they do an excellent helicopter shuttle service from the Newark air museum. Something Riat might consider?
