Gipsy Major Overhaul

Can anyone recommend an overhaul organisation preferably in the UK for a Gipsy Major engine.
It will eventually end up in KZ 11.

The only place I can think of that does those is Vintec who are eyewateringly expensive. I would be interested to hear of other places as well!!

What is KZ11?

I can think of a couple of fairly reliable small operations. (Simon) Westley Aircraft based at the strip between the M1 and Cranfield would do a good job at a good price, just take quite a long time to do it. Simon did a nice job of a top end rebuild on our Continental last year: on budget, but very slow. he has also supported a friend of mine with his Gypsy engined Auster very competently.

Not used them for engine work, but you could also try Alan Turney and Bill Morris at Chiltern Classic Flight at Turweston. We've recently switched to having our Condor maintained by them and have been very happy, as have other people we know with old aeroplanes being looked after there.

KZs were a series of aircraft types produced in Denmark - The KZ II is (most often) a tandem trainer similar to a Klemm or monoplane Moth Minor. Good luck with it! http://www.flugzeuginfo.net/acdata_p...ai_kzii_en.php

gipsy major... again??

Hi... I have hands on experience of rebuilding these engines with Paul Lipman, who may have retired from this occupation.... big issue is finding someone to sign for the work! Specialist engineering firms will carry out almost all of the work needed, at a price, depends what sort of work is required, these are fairly basic mangles....

The internet threw up Deltair Airmotive and CFS. Has anyone used either organisation?
PM if you prefer to keep comments good or bad private.

Thanks to all who have replied.

Paul Lipman is good but requires some kind of licence/approval top cover as he holds neither.

The only two other companies I would use would be Vintec or CFS at Coventry.

The other one mentioned that the internet threw up - I wouldn't give them a Lego model to assemble.....

Try Chris Adams at Deltair. He's on the south coast. Aircraft propeller & engine overhaul | Deltair Airmotive

I can thoroughly recommend them.

Surprised that one of these could be pried away from the Danish KZ enthusiasts, there are only three (Træner) of them still flying (and one Kupé)! Is it one of these, or is it whatever makes up OY-FAN these days? I helped restore the KZ-IIT frame exhibited in the museum in Helsingør many years ago, hence my interest....
